Hattie Amer Obituary

Hattie Louella passed away at 2:34 PM, Pacific Time on September 3, 2024. Her final years were spent in assisted living in Sacramento, CA, close to her eldest daughter, Carol. She was cared for and became one of the favorites of the home because of her wit, kindness and love of others.
Hattie is survived by her sisters, Mary Virginia and Estella Mae; her daughters, Carol and Gail; her grandchildren, Brian, Thomas, Reuben and Joshua; her great grandchildren, Sarah, Joshalyn, Leah, Lincoln and Tessa Louella and her great-great grandson, Sean. She always focused on the well-being of her family, loving and caring for them all.
Hattie was the eldest daughter of nine who grew up on Greasy Ridge in Ohio. Being the eldest, she learned early on to care for others. She was dedicated to helping others through her church and family. For many years she taught Sunday School, was an elder and deacon, the last assignment being at Hollywood Presbyterian Church where she was a member in good standing.
Hattie moved to Southern California in 1959 with her two daughters. There she met Tommy Amer whom she married in 1962. They lived happily together until Tommy's death in 2008. Hattie was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2016 but continued to live in the house shared with Tommy until 2018. She then moved to Sacramento in the assisted living where she could be close to her daughter Carol and have the good care she needed.
Hattie will be missed by all who knew her for her sly wit and engaging conversations. While the Alzheimer's took away a great deal of her short-term memory, it never took away her humor and love of life. She will be missed.
