James Hodges Obituary

In Loving Memory of James Alexander Hodges III
March 2, 2005-July 5, 2025
It is heartbreaking to share the tragic passing of James III who drowned on Lake Isabella, Ca., while celebrating the July 4th weekend with friends.
Born to Donna Hodges & James A. Hodges II, he entered the world with infectious enthusiasm, relentless drive & inspirational spirit.
James was 20 yrs. old & recently completed his Sophomore year at Loyola Marymount University in the College of Business Administration. He was a member of the Business Law Society, the Mane Entertainment Programming team & played Men's Club Basketball. He was a dedicated student who prioritized his studies and friends.
Beyond campus, he passionately pursued a career in the entertainment & sports industries. This passion was deeply rooted in his family's legacy in entertainment & reflected in every step of his journey. He was a Booking Intern with Live Nation Entertainment, worked part-time at the Kia Forum Box Office & previously interned with Nederlander Concerts. In 2025, he served as an Ambassador at the Pollstar Conference in L.A.
A central thread of his life was sportsmanship. He was a devoted sports fan & athlete, from early days at T-ball, flag football, golf, and daily basketball. At age 10, he announced a 9-inning Dodger's game on simulcast, & in 2018 shot hoops at a Laker's game break-earned by his heartfelt essay, "What Makes A Person A Good Teammate". He attended both Laker's & Clipper's Youth Camps. He named the orange cat he rescued, "Bronco", after his favorite Denver Bronco's Football Team.
He posted a photo of himself, beaming: "I can't believe my life!".
To his beloved Mother-his best teammate-James was everything; every good intention, every thoughtful decision, every promise fulfilled. He was her little "Bird". For her, being his Mother was the greatest honor of her life.
To his Grandparents; he was the embodiment of hope, joy & all of the aspirations one dreams for a grandchild.
To his friends, he was fiercely loyal.
He is survived by: his Mother Donna Hodges, Father J.A. Hodges II, Grandparents Sylvia Gonzalez & Jose Vega, James A. Hodges, Sr. & Karen, Half Sister Alexis Hodges, Aunt Miriam Hodges Prashad & Gaurav Prashad, Numerous Cousins and Extended Family Members.
