Janice Pemberton Obituary

August 11, 1940 - May 24, 2025 Janice Pemberton died at an assisted living facility in Simi Valley at the age of 84, after years of chronic illness. She is survived by her children, Matthew Ciesla and her granddaughter Julia Lauer, age 11, of Tucson, AZ and Christina Ciesla (Imad Aboujawdah) of Simi Valley, CA.
Janice was the youngest daughter of Philemon and Dorothy Pemberton and grew up in the Westwood and Brentwood areas of Los Angeles. She was predeceased by her older sisters, Phyllis Donohue and Margaret (Peggy) Pemberton.
Janice graduated from Mount Saint Mary's College with a bachelor's degree in nursing. She met her former husband, Thomas Ciesla, MD, when she was the head nurse on a UCLA psychiatric inpatient unit. Thereafter Janice worked at Saint John's Health Center in Santa Monica, where for many years she served as the hospital's Employee Health nurse. In this role she was warmly regarded by the hospital employees as she tended to and protected their health.
Janice was by nature a happy, outgoing person whose quick laughter endeared her to her many lifelong friends. She was well-loved and will be missed by those whose lives she brightened.

One of my favorite people. She was family. She was in my childhood every day, and our family was blessed to have her in our lives. Her laughter resonated from her home to ours. I was blessed to know her & see her so close to the end of her life! Her heart was good & fun! Anyone who knew her was lucky!

We have many cherished memories of our time spent at Janice's Guest House (1995-2000}. She was one of a kind; and will be missed and thought of often as we enjoy a batch of her delicious Oatmeal cookies or hear Elvis singing at Christmas! Our Condolences to Christina, Matt, and the family.
