Jay Winthrop Obituary

March 4, 1923 - April 1, 2016 We miss our dearest, sweetest, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Jay was a dedicated and caring family man, full of love, pure goodness, generosity, enthusiasm, and the best advice. He was always there for us. He is survived by his wife Ruth, who was his Sweetie and the love of his life for 73 years, and his adoring children Marc (Ann), Stuart (Betsy), Cheryl (David), Ellen (Gary), and Gail. He was Pop Pop to so many cherished grandchildren (including spouses), and great-grandchildren. He was a good friend to many. Jay was a partner of Dorman-Winthrop Clothiers, and employees and customers adored him and appreciated his great sense of style. Some of his passions were the Dodgers, Lake Arrowhead, Disneyland, waterskiing, fishing, photography, and traveling with Ruth to so many parts of the world, Africa being his favorite. Jay will live in our hearts and souls forever. To honor Jay's life, contributions may be made to the Jewish National Fund, or a charity close to your heart.

In the 1980's, I worked two jobs, Dorman-Winthrop being my part time employment. I was just out of the Navy and readjusting to a different world. Jay Winthrop was far and away one of the best employers one could ask for. He was kind and had a way of making his employees look forward to coming to work. I have great memories of those days and of Jay.

I worked for Dorman-Winthrop from 1979- 1983. Jay was a very kind man and an excellent "boss" to work for. He was always concerned about the people that worked with and for his company. I took much of what Jay taught me and applied to my personal and work life. Thank you Jay !

Jay Winthrop was an amazing man. I worked at Dorman Winthrop in my late teens to my early 20's. He was always kind and a pleasure to see when he would come by the store. He took the time to show and explain fabrics, fits and styles. And always took the time to ask about me. He always had kind words and made me smile. Thank you Jay, you will be missed
