Jeffrey Port Obituary

Port, Jeffrey Sanford May 9, 1950 - March 3, 2013 Jeffrey Sanford Port, 62, survived by his loving and devoted wife, Vicki, of 37 years, adoring children Ryan, Ashley, Whitney, Paige & Jade, son of Albert and Florence Port, son in law of Alfred and Helene Woskoff, and brother to Randolph Port, passed peacefully, hand in hand with his family, March 3, 2013. Jeff was the idyllic husband and father as well as his family's hero. He will be forever remembered as a role model to young and old and an incredible athlete with immeasurable strength, having been drafted by the LA Dodgers in 1972 . In his private life he was a dedicated coach and mentor to both boys and girls whose lives he enriched through his vast knowledge of baseball and the positive values of team sports. His family was blessed with love, kindness and affection of the deepest nature for all the years that Jeff touched their lives. His silly spirit lit up each and every person he knew. As a fearless leader, his fierce protection and warm embrace will be sorely missed. A private service with Jeff's family will take place. Please join us in celebration of his life -- location and date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, the Port family requests that charitable gifts be directed to the Uro Oncology Research Program Fund at the SOCCI directed by Edwin Posadas, MD in memory of Jeff Port at the Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Gifts may be made online at www.cedars-sinai.edu/Giving/ or by calling (310) 423-8537.

Jeff Port was the conscience of all fathers. The way he raised his children and his values as a man were exemplary., He was someone you wanted to like you because, if you succeeded, you felt you were doing something right. I strove for his approval.

I am very touched by the sad news of Jeff's passing. I'm certain he was born holding a bat and glove - born a third baseman. I am pleased to read what a wonderful husband and father he was and how his life touched so many others - a loving and generous man - is there a better "Legacy"? I think not. My love and prayers to Jeff's wife and children, Randy and parents...Gordon "Gordy" Francisco

Vicki,
Very saddened by the news of Jeffs passing. Many great memories of the time we shared with jeff in high school and later on for that year he lived with us. I have passed on the news to some of Jeffs former teammates who always held Jeff in the highest regard as a ballplayer and most importantly as the great guy he was.

Our love and sympathies are extended to Vicki and the children who were at the heart of Jeff's world. A consummate role model to all who were fortunate enough to know him. May he rest in peace.

Dear Port Family,
Jeff was one of my best baseball players at Birmingham High School. Once he put on the uniform he was all business. Even as a young high school ballplayer, he looked and acted like a professional. I remember both he and Randy as outstanding young people who always gave 100 percent. My heart is heavy to hear of his passing. I know the beautiful memories his family have collected will remain in their hearts forever.

Dear Vicki and Family,
We are saddened by your loss. We have such fond memories of your family at Lake of the Ozarks and have always admired what a close knit loving family you are. Jeff would wait so patiently while our girls would all gather together to "catch up" upon seeing each other at Summerset! We send you prayers, hugs, and much love until our paths cross again.

I remember all the days playing baseball in the street, every time I drive up Escalon Dr. I look to the right when I pass the old house on my way to my mom's and think of Jeff, the joker of the school bus stop and the best athlete Lanai Road school ever saw.
