Jignesh Patel Obituary

December 20, 1963 - February 21, 2025 With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Jignesh Patel, MD, PhD, a beloved husband, father, brother, and physician-scientist. He died on February 21, 2025, at the age of 61, after a courageous battle with glioblastoma.
Dr. Patel was born on December 20, 1963, in Kampala, Uganda, and grew up in London, England. He earned his bachelor's degree with honors and his medical degree from the University of Cambridge before moving to the United States to complete his internal medicine training at the Cleveland Clinic, followed by his cardiology fellowship and doctorate at UCLA, where he served as chief cardiology fellow.
A distinguished leader in his field, he became a Professor of Cardiology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, the Medical Director of the Heart Transplant Program, which is one of the highest-volume programs in the world, and the Director of the Cardiac Amyloidosis Program where he established an international amyloidosis registry. He was highly respected both nationally and internationally, serving as Chair of the American Society of Transplantation Thoracic Community of Practice and a member of the Board of Directors of the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation. A dedicated researcher, he was the Principal Investigator for more than 35 clinical trials and research projects and authored over 150 peer-reviewed scientific articles and book chapters.
Beyond his professional achievements, Jignesh was a loving and devoted family man. He cherished traveling the world with his beloved wife, Parul, sharing his passion for cardiology and homemade pizza with his elder son, Krishan, and bonding over cars and Formula 1 with his younger son, Nikhil. He also shared a love of photography and spicy foods with his brothers, Minesh and Kalpesh. Despite his many skills and accomplishments, he remained humble and endlessly generous with his time, always willing to help anyone in need.
Jignesh's legacy lives on through all the lives he touched-his family, his friends, his patients, his colleagues, and the many he mentored around the world. His kindness, wisdom, and dedication will be deeply missed, but his impact will endure for generations to come.

I am very sorry to hear the sad news just now. My heartfelt condolences to the family. I did my internal medicine residency with him and cherish the moments spent in taking care of patients with Jig. He will be missed by every one who knew him.

I´m very sad!! In 2020 I was diagnosed with cardiac amyloidoses and multiple myeloma. Levels so high, a damaged heart, it didn´t look promising! Dr.Patel together with Dr. Vescio ended up saving my life.
I am forever thankful to have been treated by a man with his knowledge!
From the first day I met him (after meeting a few other cardiologists) I felt very comfortable with him and had the confidence if someone was going to be able to help me it was Dr.Patel.
Oh man he did not disappoint!!
Sadly you past away on my birthday.
Thank you for your extraordinary support during my difficult times.
I will miss you
