Joanne (Jody) Peluso Bergin, aka Goosie, passed away on December 11, 2024, at home in Pacific Palisades surrounded by her loving family.
Born October 16, 1928, Jody was a special person right from the start: she was the only baby ever delivered at Roosevelt Hospital in Los Angeles, where her father was an orthopedic surgeon. Raised in Beverly Hills when it was still a small town, Jody attended Beverly Hills Catholic School, Beverly Hills High School, and USC. She married the boy next door and the love of her life Tom Bergin whose family owned the Los Angeles landmark, Tom Bergin's Tavern.
Jody was a dedicated volunteer throughout her life. She was a long-time member of the Los Angeles Orphanage Guild (now Maryvale), serving as Gala Chairman for several years. Her transformation of the Rodeo Collection's underground parking into a quaint courtyard for one of the galas was a spectacular success. Jody was room mother extraordinaire at Beverly Hills Catholic School, as well as President of the Mother's Club. She was a committed volunteer at the Harvard School Library, The California Science Center, and the ARCS Foundation (Achievement Rewards for College Scientists).
But Jody's favorite role was as mother and grandmother. Her home on Shadybrook Drive, where she and Tom raised their four children, was the center of Jody's world. It was the site of endless gatherings, celebrations and parties. No one can forget her annual Super Bowl party with televisions in every room, and a huge buffet all catered by Jody. She was everyone's favorite hostess and cook. Shadybrook was the site of bridal and baby showers, at least four weddings, and, of course, birthday parties for all of the children and grandchildren. Jody welcomed everyone and was never happier than when she was surrounded by family and friends. As she said in her final days, "My family has been my heaven."
Jody was predeceased by her beloved husband Tom, darling daughter Sean Bergin, and Herbie the dog. She is survived by three children: Katie Bergin Mankiewicz (John), Tom Bergin (Jeanmarie), Joe Bergin (Lynne Biglow); nine grandchildren: Kelly Bergin, Devin Terry Rosenthal (Mike), Amy Terry Mavroleon (Basil), Molly Mankiewicz, Caitlin Bergin (Golan Sarfati), Dillon Terry, Jack Mankiewicz, Elizabeth Bergin, and Catherine Bergin; four great grandchildren: Nile Durney, Elias and Nikolai Mavroleon, and Leo Rosenthal (plus two more on the way!); and other close family members: Jeffrey Jones, Laurie Bergin Feldman (Rich), and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Los Angeles Maryvale Guild at

Due to the wildfires we are postponing Jody's Memorial Service and Celebration of Life until we can have the party that she deserves.
