Joe Mozingo Obituary

Mozingo, Joe
May 11, 1941 - May 23, 2011
Joe Mozingo, great friend and brother, a virtuoso retiree and gentle soul who was known as "Uncle Joe" to more than just his nephews, died on May 23 at age 70, after pulling off the last of several medical miracles he had achieved in a richly-lived life that took doctors' advice with many, many grains of salt.
Joe was born in Bloomington, Illinois, and grew up in Hollywood and Studio City. He developed a love of photography and, throughout his life, traveled up and down the coast of California shooting whalers' shacks and foggy cypress groves.
Joe became a computer programmer and worked for the City of Los Angeles for 22 years, retiring in 2002 as Asst. General Manager of the Information Technology Agency.
In his time off, he entertained friends and family at Pismo Beach and points north in a series of ever-larger motor homes. Joe was as genial a person as you could meet, without a shred of cynicism. He made friends wherever he went and usually kept them for life.
Joe retired to Carlsbad to be near his brother and wife, Dave and Jeannie, and lived his final years as happy as he had ever been. He tooled around in a golf cart. He visited old friends around the state. His nephews, Joe and Gary, and their families often came by to see him; their kids' favorite thing to do was go on a "cart ride" with Uncle Joe.
Joe touched so many people and is profoundly missed.

Joe never did anything halfway. Everything he did was first class, all the way. This includes the fact that he was a first class friend. He will be dearly missed and remembered fondly.
