Joel H. Ravitz

1945 - 2021

July 26, 1945 - February 1, 2021 Joel H. Ravitz, Chairman & C.E.O. of Quincy Cass Associates, passed away unexpectedly at UCLA Medical Center on February 1, 2021 at the age of 75. Joel was born to Nathan and Florence (nee Rosenbaum) in Wichita Falls, Texas, where Nathan was stationed in the Army. Soon after, the family moved back to California. Joel grew up primarily in the San Fernando Valley and a Van Nuys High graduate. His passion for investments began as a teen, which eventually lead to a career in 1970 with Quincy Cass Associates, Inc. Founded in 1922, Quincy Cass Associates is the oldest independent investment firm in Los Angeles. He remained at Quincy Cass Associates throughout his career spanning 50 plus years, becoming the Chairman & C.E.O.Joel had one of the most extensive and varied experiences in the securities industry serving on numerous national regulatory committees. He was also a director of a publicly traded Bank a member of its Board's executive committee. He believed in giving back to the community by serving as a past president and director of Therapeutic Living Centers for the Blind, a facility for Individuals with multiple-disabilities and blindness, in addition he served, a multitude of other philanthropic activities.Joel enjoyed summer seasons at the Hollywood Bowl, Dodger Baseball, USC Football and fly fishing. Joel was also a member of the California Club.Joel was an epicurean (foodie) serving as a past Director of the International Wine and Food Society Foundation, and as a Chairman and long standing member of the Board of Governors to the Wine and Food Society of Hollywood, as well as being a past President and Director of the Wine and Food Society of the San Fernando Valley. Joel's love of food and wine was only superseded by his love for his wife of 48 years!Joel leaves his wife Jo-An, a younger brother Stephen; numerous cousins, extended family and many friends and associates.Joel was a gentleman. He was generous, kind and thoughtful to all who had the pleasure of knowing and meeting him. He will be greatly missed and his passing has left a huge void in the hearts of family, friends and associates. Gifts in Joel Ravitz' name can be made to Therapeutic Living Centers for the Blind (TLC).A memorial service will be held at a later time.
