John Heil Obituary

HEIL, John C. John C. Heil passed away Monday, July 21, 2008 at his family home. He had a nine-month battle with cancer. He was born in 1931, attended schools in New York and joined the U. S. Marines in 1951. After being discharged from the Marines, he began a career in the aerospace industry in the San Fernando Valley. He founded Aero-Component in Burbank and ran it for over 40 years, supplying hoses and fittings to the aero industry throughout the world with emphasis on aircraft hoses. His customers could always count on getting outstanding service and attention from John. He was a man of his word and had the highest integrity. He loved golf. He and his wife, Charlotte, spent many weekends playing at various courses near their desert home in Palm Springs. There were very few locations that he had not played. Another interest was fine cars. At one time he had an outstanding collection of Mercedes, Ferraris, and Detroit Iron. He also participated in racing several of these fine examples of automotive art in Vintage Racing events in California. He always said he was a better driver at racing than he was with his drive off the tee in golf. John had a facility to engage in conversation at the least bit of encouragement. His ability to tell a story was unsurpassed. He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Charlotte, of 41 years, son Danny, grandsons Erik and Adam, sister Joan, and a host of other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, please direct donations to the American Cancer Society or the Kaiser Hospice Fund at 13652 Cantara Street/Balboa Plaza, Panorama City, CA 91402.

John was my husband Patrick's best friend. They were like brothers. They had a great connection in business and in their personal lives. As a friend, you knew that you could count in John and that he would always be there for you, no matter the circumstances. As Patrick's wife, we were both honored to have know him and have him in our lives. He was always ready with a joke but took his golf very seriously. He could dress very flamboyantly at times and was always fun to be with. I can honestly say that we both loved him very much.

I wrote John a letter before he died. I do hope he read it. I told him how much I loved him. He was my husband's best friend. They were tied to the hip at times. Like brothers that bonded, they had so much fun together. John had the kind of personality that just lit up a room. He was a good match for my Patrick. Oh, the tales they could tell! I also knew that I could always count on him after my Patrick died. He was a true friend! Hundreds will miss him!

John and Charlotte became a part of my life after I married their niece over twenty years ago. Even though our marriage ended, I still considered John and Charlotte family. His untimely death has truly saddened me and I deeply regret that I never had the courage to tell him how I admired him and loved him. His wit, humor, and passion for life will always remain an inspiration for me throughout my life. I feel privileged and honored that John shared a small part of his life with me. I will always miss him and I pray that God will ease the pain that Charlotte and the family are feeling for losing such a wonderful man.

Although I did not know John outside of our business relationship, the man was always a pleasure to visit with. He gave everyone an equal amount of respect. He will be missed.

I first met John needing to solve a serious hose problem that I had. He and John Mackey solved my problem immediately. After that, I took all my hose and tube needs to John. We became good friends and I have great memories of rides in his cars. playing golf, and most of all laughing together and swapping stories. I hope someday to see him again. Until then I will miss our dear friend. Debbie and I offer our deepest sympathy to Charlotte and Danny and the grandchildren. We all were lucky to have had him be a part of our lives.

John since your passing I think of you often, I know that you are looking down on us from the heaven's and are saying "You miss me don't you!?"
There are so many special gifts that you left behind patience, generosity, laughter and forgiveness.
The special name you gave me "Baby Cakes" I will cherish always.
I was so lucky to spend precious time with you when I worked as girl Monday through Thursday with you and Ms Charlotte at Aero Component and during those last days when I came to see you there was a big smile, bright eyes, jokes and good stories to share.
I will never, forget you and you will forever be in my heart.
Look up my dad Pops while in heaven and he will buy you a beer.
Love, Baby Cakes and Ron

P.S. I'll keep an eye on Ms. Charlotte for you.

Just like his cars, John was a classic. I will miss the sparkle in his eyes, and that mischievious laugh . It was truly my benefit to have known John. Although he may not be with us physically, his memory will always be in my thoughts and prayers and "buddy ol' pal" will continue to bring a big smile to my face. My thoughts and Prayers go out to Charlotte, Danny, Eric and all of the members of his family.

I procured hoses from Aero Components Engineering. I met John when he and David visited Rolls-Royce Engine Services in Oakland. Lunch visits were great, enjoying listening to the stories John told so well. His travels with Charlotte...his fishing trips...and yes his golf outings. I enjoyed the working relationship over time. John certainly knew the product. If you had a question..John had the answer. Both John and Charlotte are special. My prayers go out to the family and friends who will miss John. His spirit will live on in the hearts of people who knew and loved him.

I bought Aero Component Engineering from John and Charlotte about three and half years ago. John has been my mentor and friend since.

You would think that after selling his business of some 40 years that he might take his foot of the gas, maybe just a little. Not John Heil, he still came in every day with the same drive and passion he always had.

This company was his baby; he loved everything about it, the banter with customers and suppliers, the wheeling and dealing. His excitement when we would purchase an inventory or receive a government auction lot was something to observe. “Christmas”, “Kid in a candy store” “Child with a new toy” these were nothing on how he would be.

John was and still is “Aero Component Engineering” We are moving to a new building in Valencia that will be named in his honor, his parking space is already identified as “John Heil – Founder”

We all here at Aero feel the loss but we know we have an Arch Angel looking over us. We feel his presence every day. Unfortunately, we wont get to discuss how bad our golf games are, or have to listen to his vast array of silly jokes, or hear his many colloquialisms (where they came from I have no idea), or be slagged of for selling a job to cheap, or be able to ask him about a part and in return get the exact location in the inventory (what a memory, steel trap and he used to call it)

We have lost our founder, leader, mentor but he will never be forgotten!

Uncle John
My thoughts of Uncle John was what a wonderful man he had been in my life. I was so privileged to have such a fantastic Uncle like you through my childhood years as well as my adult years. You are a very special man in my life and will always be forever; you are the only Uncle I had so close to spend time with and make so many fond memories. You were always there for me as a figure in my life to look up too and learn from in so many ways. Your life from my eyes has been a wonderful journey that only I can dream of ever experiencing. Your life to me has been so amazing, the places you have traveled, the wonders the world has, you had seen with your very own eyes no one can take away. You had always treated me like a special niece. In my heart you have always been this strong man that nothing could penetrate, someone to look up too for advice, guidance, knowledge and wisdom. I will never forget you telling jokes, watching cartoons, coloring and playing games with Kristina, those are memories she will never forget nor I for I have photographs to view in the future of a great man. My memories are of us traveling in your Gold Lincoln down to Palm Springs to your condo and spending time with both you and Aunt Charlotte. While I was in High School you let me work at your shop one summer, plus having you over my home and to the Palm Springs house for holidays those were all special times. Christmas’s were always so special as well, the house decorated by Aunt Charlotte and you always wearing your festive plaid pants and a red or green sweater, that’s what I remember. Christmas’s won’t be the same without you sitting at the end of the table in your special spot, but the memories will never fade. I will cherish all the great memories we have shared through our time together and pray that we will all be together someday. I will miss you with all my heart and soul. You have been blessed your whole life on this earth with many fortunes, the best one is LOVE.
I will love you always and forever,
Debra & Kristina

John will be missed by so many people. Charlotte and the family most of all. He was a good friend of mine and we had a lot of good talks about cars and stuff like that. Many good lunches at the Ramp and Sardos. He was a good poker player and a game like that was filled with so many jokes and stories, that I wish I had taken a tape recorder.
He will not be forgotten. R.I.P John.

It was great to know you, Old Buddy. Never a dull moment. I will always remember the good times. (That was all of the time.) You will always be one-of-a kind in my book.
