Nancy,
A 'tad' late, but in searching for past friends, I of course thought of you and John...and our past long friendship dating back (with John to 1964 in Wisconsin) and my visit to Pacific Palisades CA and the wonderful tour of the Nethercutt's Tower of Beauty and the wonderful collection of musical instruments and, of course, the pipe organ and collection of automobiles. Also of memory were the terrible wind swept fires in Pacific Palisades and hosing down your home with you on the roof and then having to evacuate!! I hope you're still with us and will eventually find this notation and memory. Hugs, Charles Chenoweth, B.S., B.S., D.D.S.

Will always remember John. We were friends for over 40 years. We loved our mutual feelings for classic films and theatre pipe organ. He was a charter member of my classic film group, the Brotherhood of the Popcorn. Pictured is our original members from the 1980’s. John is standing far right. I am sitting in the center. Rest is peace my dear friend. You will not be forgotten.

"The Cliffhangers"

I became acquainted with John in the mid 1960's through film collecting. A couple of years later John was traveling through my hometown of Alexandria, Virginia and came for an in-person visit. It was instant friendship as we found we had much in common., not just movies but movie projectors, movie palaces and theatre pipe organs, thus began an almost 50 year friendship.

We both somehow ended up in California and the friendship became even stronger. In the early 1980's I formed a classic film group called "The Cliffhangers" in honor of the old time movie serials. A few of my friends would get together on Saturday mornings and watch a double feature of old movies and a cliffhanger serial. John was one of the first to sign up. He became affectionately known to the group as "Cookie" John. John would bring a big plate of chocolate chip cookies, sometime still warm from the oven.

John was a warm hearted, gentle human being. If you were a friend of Johns, you knew what real friendship was. The world could use more John Schellkopf's.

Thanks for being my friend John.

Nancy...I know you & John from WAAAY back--maybe 40 years??-- when you got your little dog "Co-Co" thru my dad ...Dr Phil Olson. I am Mary Olson Kanian and I recall sharing many a movie night at the Simonton home with you & John. Well...the years slip by & along the way we drift apart, but the memories we all shared are warmly recalled. You & John created a wonderful life for so many years. I regret not being a part of it...but grateful for what we did share. He was a kind & warm human being. He will be missed & so warmly remembered. Hugs to you, Nancy!
