Jonathan Nix Obituary

December 1, 1921 - September 6, 2024 Jonathan Solomon Nix passed away on September 6th at age 102 after a life that touched many people. From his humble beginnings in Pigeon Creek, Alabama through seven decades in Southern California, Jonathan lived a life of service and was a role model. After spending 5 years in the U.S. Conservation Corps., Jonathan served in the U.S. Navy, deployed to Germany and the New Hebrides Islands during WWII. He also served in the U.S. Army from 1948-1954 and the Naval Reserves until 1981, completing more than 30 years of proud service to his country. Jonathan loved and served his country even when his country did not always want to love and serve him.
After serving abroad in WWII, Jonathan returned to the U.S. and received his nursing degree, using his skills as a nurse to treat psychiatric patients and people with substance abuse issues. Jonathan showed each patient compassion, love and patience. He would literally give you the shirt off his back. Jonathan was a lifelong learner. He learned to speak German and Dutch, and became fluent in Spanish. He encouraged everyone he came into contact with to pursue learning. Jonathan was dedicated to his church communities, singing a capella spirituals and as a valued member of several church choirs, the last of which was Bethel AME in Oxnard, CA.
Jonathan was married for 60 years to the love of his life, Shirley Mae (deceased). He was a loving father of 4, grandfather of 12, great-grandfather of 16, and great-great-grandfather of 7. He will be forever remembered with love by his family and many friends.
