Joseph "Sam" Loeb IV

Joseph Loeb Obituary

Loeb, Sam (Joseph Loeb IV) April 13, 1988 - June 17, 2005
Sam Loeb (legal name Joseph Loeb IV) passed away on Friday, June 17th in the early morning. Born April 13, 1988 in Los Angeles, Sam fought a valiant three year battle against cancer. He did it, as he did everything, with dignity and humor. An "A" student at the Highly Gifted Magnet at North Hollywood High School, Sam 17, had just completed the 11th grade. At 15, he became one of the youngest comic book writers, published in Tales of the Vampires by Dark Horse. He loved The Teenage Drama Workshop at CSUN, film, television, cartoons, politics, sushi, stand-up comedy, arguing and forever laughing. Most important were his friends and family. He is survived by his father, Jeph Loeb (Joseph Loeb III); his mother, Christine Gherard Loeb, and his thirteen year old sister, Audrey Marguerite Loeb; his grandparents David and Patricia Squire of Boston, Mass. and Phyllis Keilson of New York City. He had twenty uncles and aunts, nineteen cousins, and more friends than anyone could count. In lieu of flowers the family prefers donations to the Sarcoma Alliance, 775 E. Blithedale #334, Mill Valley, CA 94941. Services are 2 p.m., Monday at Mount Sinai Memorial Parks & Mortuaries - Hollywood Hills (800)600-0076.

I am so sorry for your loss, and I have carried Sam in my thoughts for a while.

We met at the Teenage Drama Workshop and he was so great and full of humor and kindness; he befriended me when no one else did.

I just want you to know how much everyone misses Sam and the tears that were brought to many's eyes when it was announced at TADW.

My prayers are with you.

Who said any death is fair, any ended life deserved?
Kryptonite is not enough – or maybe it doesn’t work –
Or maybe you need too much, and none can carry so much stone –
Or maybe there is no rock strong enough to hold a boy alone
