Kathleen Plummer Obituary

March 17, 1943 - February 4, 2024 Kathleen Church Plummer (Mary Kathleen Church) was born in Los Angeles on March 17, 1943 to MarySue and Charles Church and passed away on February 4, 2024 in Sacramento, California.
Kathy grew up in the Los Feliz area of Los Angeles (Ambrose Avenue kids), attended Marlborough School, class of 1961, and graduated from Pomona College, Bachelor of Arts, 1965. It was in those early years Kathy began to pursue her interests in travel, painting, art history and design and ultimately teaching.
After graduating from Pomona, Kathy moved to Puerto Rico to explore other cultures, and to study and paint.
Through her career, Kathleen was involved in myriad of interesting projects as either an artist, an author, a Historical Consultant or Lecturer: Design Advisory Board for Hollywood Bowl Design Guidelines, 2001 Hodgetts and Fung, Architects; "The Streamline Moderne". Design Advisory Board developing guidelines for the Hollywood Bowl, 2001; "Nothing Noisy: Costume of the Future in the Science Fiction of H.G. Wells and His Contemporaries." Nineteenth Century Studies Association, Savannah, Georgia, 2002; a Fulbright Scholarship to travel to China to study the history of Chinese design; plus many other Lectures, Workshops and Publications, Grants, Awards and Honors over the years.
After getting married Kathy settled in Sacramento, raising her two sons, Charles and Brian, while teaching at UC Davis. She was also active in her church, community affairs and her Sacramento book club.
In the last several years, Kathy's health deteriorated resulting in her activities being severely limited, still always feeling great fondness for Ambrose Avenue friends as well as those from the early years at Marlborough and Pomona College.
Kathleen valued her cousins and all relatives from both the Howard and Escherich families. Kathleen leaves behind her two sons, Charlie and Brian who have always been the most important part of her life, and as well as her brother, Ken of Palm Desert and Los Angeles.
A memorial service will be held 11:30, Saturday, March 16, 2024 at the Westminister Presbyterian Church 1300 "N" Street, Sacramento, CA. 95814, with a light luncheon to immediately follow. Should you wish to make a donation in Kathleen's memory, please consider: Pomona College; Westminster Presbyterian Church; or NAMI (Arlington, Virginia); or a charity of your choice.

Kathy and I have been friends our whole lives. We kidded that we knew each other before we were born since our parents went to UCLA together. Kathy´s uncle Sherm married my mother when they were in their 80´s and had each outlived their spouses, so we ended up actually becoming "family". A dearer friend one couldn´t ask for and Kathy will be dearly missed.
