Daniel de la Garza Obituary

September 2, 1958 - August 31st, 2014
Daniel de la Garza, born on September 2, 1958 in San Antonio, Texas passed away August 31st, 2014 in Phoenix, Arizona. He is predeceased by his mother, Minerva N. de la Garza, and his father, Carlos B. de la Garza.
He is survived by his brothers, Carlos A. de la Garza Jr., Raul R. de la Garza, Robert de la Garza, and his sister Elisa Cole; also by numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews, great nieces, their extended families and many friends.

He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School, San Antonio and the University of Texas at San Antonio majoring in accounting. After graduation, Dan went to work for the Cancer Treatment Research Center, San Antonio, for several years. From his early adolescent years, through his entire adult life, he created his first passion - music; and evolved into an accomplished drummer.

After a few years of working at CTRC, San Antonio, Dan moved to Phoenix, Arizona where upon he married his next passion - Jodee Elliott. It was here he additionally excelled in his final passion - golf.
He continued his education at a specialized golf school, where upon graduation he was awarded the ability to perform as a professional golf instructor. Shortly after graduation, the school offered him - and he accepted - the position of school master; and the accolades continued throughout his golf life. Dan loved traveling, and saw the world with his wife Jodee at his side; many of these trips were experienced because golf was involved.

A celebration mass to honor Dan's life will begin at 3:00 P.M. at St. Benedict's Catholic Church, 4535 Lord Rd., San Antonio, Texas on Sunday, September 28th, 2014. Father Eddie Bernal will be officiating. All services will conclude thereafter.

We are very sad to hear of Dan's passing. He taught our son, Evan, golf for many years at Club West and has instilled in him the love of the game. Evan will treasure the golf clubs he gave him, and the many golf balls from his many travels. He was a wonderful man, and he touched our hearts in a very special way. Dan will be greatly missed. Rest in peace..."Coach Dan"

I am very sorry for your loss. Dan was my golf instructor for almost a decade, beginning before I was a teenager. He always knew how to make me laugh. He was a great instructor, role model, and friend. God bless.

We just heard this very sad news. We enjoyed having Dan play percussion with our band on numerous occasions over the past few years and you could tell he was having fun doing what he loved. He was always easy to work with and good natured. He will be missed!

To the family of Dan......We shared the love of music and he will be missed at the many Chuck E. Baby gigs, where he often sat in on the drums. He was a handsome, cheerful good guy. Last time I saw him was a few years ago at the Buttes where we spent a beautiful afternoon listening to live music and enjoying the company of friends! The news of his death was very surprising. May God welcome him to the heavenly band!

I am so sorry for your loss. I will always remember Dan as the person that helped me give my mother the best Mother's Day present I could think of. Surprising her on the 1st Tee ready to play is one of the greatest moments we have shared and golf is still something we share. God Bless.

My deepest condolences goes out to all the families. Danny was my first true inspiration on the drums. I remember him playing like Neil Peart and Buddy Rich. He set up my first drums and played it like an octopus. I also remember him riding a wheelie on his 10 speed bike while spinning the front wheel for blocks. I also heard from his brother he played a great game of golf. Even though our age deferred, our birthday was 1 day apart and he always treated well. I will always remember you and I love you Danny.

Carlos, Raul, Bobby and Elisa I am so sorry for your loss. Danny was like a brother to me. We played a lot of golf together, I even remember in the early days when I could beat him. That was before he got serious about the game. We spent Many a Monday evening's at Lyndy's with Fr. Eddie and Fr. Tony having fun and Friday evenings at Friday's preparing for our weekend golf outing. I remember moving Danny out to Phoenix in late October I believe 1992 celebrating Holloween at Eli's one of his favorite hangouts. Wherever Danny and I were at we always had a great time enjoying each others company and friendship. As I have told people when Danny and I met at Friday's on a Friday evening it was love at first sight.

May Good Bless Danny and your family.
Albert
