Landon Exley Obituary
February 5, 1932 - April 2, 2023 Landon MacVicar Exley passed peacefully at home surrounded by his family on April 2 at age 91. Landon was born in Santa Monica and was the only child of Philip Landon Exley and Frances Kearsley Exley. He attended Santa Monica High School, where he was a standout athlete. His skills as a left-handed quarterback earned him the honor of All-CIF Player of the Year.
Landon was offered a football scholarship to USC, where he played quarterback and defensive back. He had fond memories of playing in the Coliseum, at Notre Dame, and in the 1953 Rose Bowl. As a longtime supporter of USC Athletics, Landon paid back his scholarship and endowed the Landon Exley Football Scholarship to help provide the same opportunities to other USC athletes. He was a true Trojan on and off the field.
At USC, Landon was a member of the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity, where he cemented lifelong friendships. He married his college sweetheart, Suzie, and they had three daughters. The quintessential man's man was also the ultimate girl dad.
After serving in the Air Force, Landon began a long career in real estate development. He was President of Pacesetter Homes, which developed numerous residential communities in Southern California. He also developed properties in Idaho.
In 1981, Landon married the love of his life, Debbie Bradford. They were happily married for 42 years, traveling the world extensively and entertaining often. Their homes were always the center of activity with friends and family, and Landon was always the life of the party.
Landon was the ultimate sportsman and adventurer. He hunted and fished around the world, raced off-road vehicles, and loved a round of golf with friends. He created such special memories for his family and friends in Sun Valley, Shaws Cove, Balboa Island, and the Rio Hardy River in Baja.
Landon lived a long, full life - his quick wit and dry sense of humor were with him until the end. He is survived by his wife, Debbie, and his three daughters; Jan Thompson (John), Lynn Pyle, and Diane Bearer (Bruce); nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren with two more on the way. He was also a wonderful uncle to Debbie's six nieces. He was the best Bampa to all! Landon's spirit and legacy will live on through his family. He will be dearly missed.
Landon's life will be celebrated with family and friends.
