Leonard Rosenfeld Obituary

Rosenfeld, Dr. Leonard
Born February 17, 1920, Spotswood, New Jersey. Died on September 15, 2002 in Thousand Oaks, California. After graduating from Rutgers University in 1942, he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps and was stationed in Guam during World War II. When the war ended, he attended Hahnemann Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and received his medical degree in 1950. He served his internship at Beth Israel Hospital, Newark, New Jersey, and in 1951 embarked on his lifelong dream of being a general practitioner in the small town of Ringoes in Hunterdon County, New Jersey. He practiced in Ringoes for nearly twenty years doing all the things a country doctor did, office hours twice daily, house calls night and day, and delivered babies staying with the mother through the entire labor process. After putting in 16 to 20 hour days in Ringoes he and his wife and four children relocated to Thousand Oaks, California in 1970. He became a partner in the Van Nuys Medical Group and Burbank Medical Group and practiced for another 22 years, until he retired in 1992. As a family practitioner he was greatly loved and appreciated by his patients for his thorough, competent and gentle caring manner sprinkled with great wisdom and careful analysis of patient problems without unnecessary medication. He had a genius for being able to repair anything. He enjoyed being with his family and traveling with Hope, beloved wife of 58 years, and his four children, Paul, Jaclin, Jonathan and Beth. In addition to his immediate family, Dr. Rosenfeld is survived by a brother, S. Herbert Rosenfeld of Walpole, Massachusetts and sister, Alice Pollard of Monroe Township, New Jersey. He also leaves six grandchildren, Jennifer Rosenfeld, Kaela, Rachel and Joshua Morris, Elijah D'Arcy and Natalie Rosenfeld, who were the light of his life and who helped maintain his happiness the last six years of his life. Interment occurred on September 18 at Eden Memorial Park, Mission Hills, California. People wishing to honor his memory are asked to do so by donating to the charity of their choice.

We lived in Ringoes NJ, and he was our Dr. until he moved. My best memory was when my husband wanted to get a physical so he could skydive. He weighed about 225 lbs, and Dr Rosenfeld said he would need some weight lost before attempting the skydive event.
