Lester Smull Obituary

September 9, 1932 - December 28, 2016 Lester C. (aka "Bud") Smull, Jr., 84, of Laguna Beach, California, died of natural causes in his home on December 28, 2016. His beloved wife, Jimmy, was at his side, and his children were present. Born in 1932 in Riverside, California, to Lester C. Smull and Elsie Gilliland Smull, Bud's family moved to Los Angeles where Bud graduated in 1950 from Los Angeles High School. He played basketball for USC and was a member of the Kappa Alpha fraternity. Bud graduated from USC in 1954 and married Karolyn Kay Brelsford later that year. He joined Coldwell Banker, where he became one of their most successful salesmen. Bud went on to co-found his first real estate development company in the 1960's, and then founded Business Properties, Inc., in 1970. He married his soul mate, Jimmy Louise Wilhoit, in January of 1979. A brilliant, accomplished, and multi-faceted man, Bud led an active, full life that included boating, travel, cycling, basketball, and all things Trojan. He also supported many causes such as the Institute of Human Origins and the International Churchill Society. God broke the mold after creating Lester Clyde Smull and he will be deeply missed by his family and many friends. He is survived by his loving wife, Jimmy Smull; his children, Lauren Smull Ackerman and her husband Bob, Kerri Smull Moyer and her husband, Tom, and Jack Lowell White and his wife Beth; his grandchildren, Robert, Alexander, Nicolette, Matthew, Lowell and Oliver; his sister, Claree Crocheron, and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A private memorial service will be held in February. Memorial donations may be made to the International Churchill Society at winstonchurchill.org or to the University of Southern California at giveto.usc.edu.

His wife Jimmy was my secretary in Dallas. His wife and my wife were friends from High School. I met Lester in Santa Fe, NM for the first time.
Lester was a very fun guy to be around. Sorry he lived in California, he would of made a great friend.

Dear Jimmy
It's Joyce Domenico. Your friend and first mate from the Jim Jim
I have thought of you and Bud so often over the years and decided to google you today. I am so sorry to hear of Bud passing. He loved you so much. You were always the people I aspired to be. We had many memories and amazing times traveling together over the years on the Jim Jim.
I am sorry it took me so long to get in touch.
Love you

I will miss you my friend, rest peacfully. Thank you for all the years we had to work with you and the Jim Jim. I was just a small boy when my father Jackie Bivens was building your engines for the Jim Jim. Lots of memories. Lost dad on May 12, 2009. Two great minds and two wonderful people.

A bright star has been extinguished with the death of Bud Smull. He was the epitome of fairness and generosity to my husband and me during my husband's professional connection with him and, after my husband's death, in his relationship with me. I am forever grateful to him, and I'm sorry to see him go. I know he will be well received in Heaven! Fondly, Susan Morse-Poynter
