Lillian HOFFMAN Obituary
HOFFMAN, Lillian and Bill Lillian Hoffman, known to Lake CA children as "the lollipop lady," passed away on August 13. Her husband Bill died August of 2008. They were married for 53 years. Lillian and Bill resided in Lake California and formerly in the Los Angeles area. Lillian worked for Southern CA Gas Co. for over 32 years. Bill was a WWII Navy Vet. After his discharge from the Navy he began his 29 year career at AT&T. Bill was supervising the installation of telephone systems throughout the corporate headquarters when he and Lillian met. Lillian was the only female division manager at her company, now known as Sempra Energy. She began as a customer service rep. moving steadily up the corporate ladder, mentoring many women. Lillian managed company operations in 26 cities in the San Gabriel District, supervising 550 employees. Customer safety and satisfaction for clients and employees were her main priority. She represented her company before a congressional committee, and at utility seminars and workshops.
Retirement only meant that Lillian was not on a payroll. She and Bill moved to Lake CA where she organized the first blood drive and ran it for many years with friends. She served on the architectural committee, the property owners' association, and for youths Lillian organized Halloween activities at the Lake Club. She helped direct traffic during emergencies, raised funds for the fire department, and volunteered for Water District. Lillian, Bill and friends built the animal kennel near the lake for stray and abandoned pets. Many cherished Lillian and Bill. Left to mourn their passing are sisters Evelyn Ross (Dave) and daughters Denise and Lisa; Renee Ream (John) children Amy and Andrew; nephew Rick Jacobs (Annette), daughters Jordan and Hailee; and nephew Ron Jacobs. Especially close friends: Millie Palmquist; Pamela and Denis Del Monte, daughter Christine; Lester and Trish Anderson; Margaret and Chad Cornelius; Jeff and Pat Wilson. Thank you to all who cared for Lillian and Bill. Special thanks to the very caring staff at Oak River, where Lillian lived for several months. Lillian and Bill were fervent patriots and were devoted to animals (wild and domestic). Contributions in memory of Lillian and Bill sent to an animal shelter or a veterans organization would be appreciated. Arrangements under the direction of the Neptune Society of No CA, Chico Branch.
