Marcel George Obituary
May 23, 1929 - October 16, 2014 Marcel George passed away peacefully with family at his bedside on October 16, 2014. We know that it is with great joy that our father, grandfather and friend is reunited in eternity with his beloved bride of 63 years, Joanne Marie, who predeceased him by just weeks. Marcel, aka Marc, was born May 23, 1929 in Santa Monica, California. He was the youngest of three children born to Clovis and Angele George, French/Belgian immigrants, and the only U.S. born. He graduated from St. Monica's High School. He attended USC where he was a member of the Theta Xi fraternity and served as Junior Class president while earning an undergraduate degree in History, as well as his Master's. While still in school, he met and married the love of his life Joanne Marie Mouren-Laurens and together they became life-long Trojans. The Trojan family grew as Marc became father to three daughters, all future Trojans. In the early years, Marc taught high school history in L.A. Unified, was employed as a VP in mortgage banking with Sutro & Sons, and completed more post graduate work at Northwestern University. Marc left the corporate life, with young family in tow, to follow in the footsteps of his father in real estate development. Together with his wife, he built a successful commercial real estate portfolio in the greater Los Angeles area and, in time, mentored his daughter Carol to follow in his footsteps. As a business man he had vision, integrity and honesty and was highly respected in the community. Marc's biggest joys in life were his family and friends, and Marc's sense of humor always brought a smile to those around him. He loved travel and all things Trojan (football, baseball, basketball, Thornton School of Music). Trojan Travel provided a host of family trips: Cuba with his daughters Elyse and Carol and their families; cruising in Alaska and fishing for salmon with his grandson Marc Kaiser; trips with his daughter Elyse and her family to Notre Dame and Gainesville, and cruising the Caribbean and the waterways of France. Tennis was the family sport, bridge was a passion and, yes, shopping with his "girls" was a joy. Marc was an avid reader, and his thirst for knowledge made him a perfect member of MENSA. A good day only got better when topped off with a Jack Daniel's Manhattan and a roaring game of backgammon with his "bride". Marc is survived by his three daughters, Elyse Kaiser (husband Howard), Carol George Stewart (husband Roger), Deborah George, and grandson Marc Kaiser. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Marc to The Joanne Marie and Marcel George Foundation, dedicated to funding worthy causes in the Southern California area. Mailing address: Wells Fargo Bank, Attn: Daniel Wrigley, 90 S. 7th St., 10th Fl, N9405-101, Minneapolis, MN 53402. A celebration of Marc's life will be held at The Risen Christ Chapel, Holy Cross Cemetery, 5835 Slauson Ave., Culver City, at 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, December 3, with a mass of resurrection. It's Christmas time Daddy, your favorite time of year. We so cherish the memories of waking up on Christmas morning to the fairy tale you made happen for your princesses. Merry Christmas.
