Mark Hitz Obituary

Hitz, Mark Allen November 16, 1959 - June 2, 2012 Rock Hill - Mr. Mark Allen Hitz, 52, passed away suddenly on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC. A memorial service will be 4pm on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel with Rev. Barry Yates officiating. A native of New Rockford, North Dakota, Mark was the son of Phyllis Zander Hitz of New Rockford and the late Louis Hitz. He was employed with Source Technologies in Charlotte, NC, was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and UCLA Alumni Association and was a commissioned officer in the National Guard. In addition to his great love for his family, he was a gentleman farmer who enjoyed sky diving, scuba diving, fine dining and travel. Mark never met a stranger, and was devoted to his work and professional colleagues. And did we mention he loved farming? Mark attended the University of North Dakota and UCLA, where he earned a masters degree in Mechanical Engineering. He lived in Granada Hills, California and Orlando, Florida prior to moving to Rock Hill, South Carolina. In addition to his beloved mother, he is survived by his loving wife, Marjorie Kazmer Hitz; his wonderful sons, Sgt. Thomas (Heather) Hitz of Ft. Hood, TX, Benjamin and David Hitz, both of Rock Hill; his treasured daughters, Carrie Hitz (Luke Swoape) of Casselberry, FL and Charlotte Hitz of Rock Hill; his best brothers, Jeffrey Hitz of New Rockford and Bruce (Nancy) Hitz of Panama City Beach, FL; his cherished sisters, Karen (Rod) Thompson of West Fargo, North Dakota and Kristi (Paul) Jurek of Red Oak, TX; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Shawn Hitz. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mr. Hitz's name to the American Cancer Society, 500 East Morehead Street, Suite 211, Charlotte, NC 28202. I send Mark's family my heartfelt condolences. I was lucky to have worked with Mark for the past five years on projects for ST. Mark was such an outstanding person in every way. He was a brilliant engineer and was always willing to share his great knowledge. Even during our business conversations, Mark spoke joyfully about his family and his farm.

I hope that knowing he was so happy will bring a measure of comfort to Marjorie, the children and the whole family at this very difficult time. All of us at Simmons will miss Mark greatly, and will keep his family in our constant prayers.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Hitz family. Growing up in NR I remember going to the Hitz farm for occasional get-togethers at a young age. He was quite the spit fire at a young age. I'm a few years ahead of Mark but a stint in the Army happened to bring us closer to parity in university studies (though he could have chosen a better school - NDSU vice UND :). I saw him half a dozen times a year through college and what I remember most is the intelligence, confidence, and humbleness that eminated from the then young man. I haven't seen Mark for +/- 30 years. I'm not surprised nothing changed with Mark as he progressed as a husband, father, and professional as evidenced by the other other postings. I imagined nothing different as I wondered what Mark was doing off and on the past three decades. To Marjorie, kids, mother Hitz, and brothers and sisters, I wish you comfort, peace, and God's blessings in this time of loss.

I was lucky to be able to work with Mark at Source Technologies. I will really miss his smile as we passed each other in the hallway - he had a way of brightening my day. Add to that the wonderful treat of having some of his garden vegetables which he was so proud of. My prayers are with the family.

I worked closely with Mark for almost his entire time at Source Technologies and got to know him well, particularly when we traveled to Taiwan together. Mark was one of the brightest people I knew and he was eager to share his knowledge with others. While he had an enormous responsibility, if he ever got frustrated or felt overwhelmed he didn't show it. Mark was a true friend and the love he had for his family was obvious. He will not be forgotten. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family. Please let me know if I can do ANYTHING to help you through this difficult time.

HItz family, Mark was one of the very few great persons that i know. Even though we got acquainted by business, he proved there was a real friendship behind business. I heard a lot about all of you from Mark, that showed how much Mark loved you. He for sure will continue to love you in a different way.. (pat chen - Simmons)

Marjorie and family,

Word of the recent death of Mark has just come to us, and we hasten to offer condolences. When we knew about Mark's brain tumor, we were worried. But the only thing we could do was to pray for him. He was always so positive about his situation, as he always did with his job and with people.

We had the privilege of knowing Mark in years past, and we realize your great loss. He was a fine and brilliant man, and he will not be forgotten by the many who admired and respected him.

When he joined our year end party in last Jan (the second time), we joked about having him join us the third time (per Chinese, it is a culture to have three times as a completion). This seemed to happen just yesterday. We wonder why such a nice people was gone so young!

Please convey our sympathy and our warm personal regards to all your family.

Cordially yours,
