Mark Kane Obituary

September 15, 1931 - November 16, 2016 Devoted husband, beloved father and grandfather, revered family patriarch, and distinguished attorney, Mark Clement Kane passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, at age 85. Mark was born in Dubuque, Iowa, the 8th of the 10 children of Allan J. and Stella H. Kane. A graduate of Loras Academy, he moved to Los Angeles in 1950 and served as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force, later graduating from Loyola University and Loyola Law School in 1960. After launching his career as a Deputy City Attorney, he practiced law for 35 years and was a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates. He met his wife Elsie in 1970, and was happily married to her for 45 years. Together, they raised two children, worked side-by-side at his private law firm, and gathered many close-knit communities of good colleagues and lifelong friends. A true gentleman in every sense, Mark was known for his kindness, integrity, and wisdom. An avid reader and a devotee of crossword puzzles, he was a gentle soul with a great intellect and a deep Catholic faith. He was a passionate Lakers fan, a fierce fantasy football opponent, and loved following Notre Dame and Stanford. In his retirement, he enjoyed traveling the world with Elsie, volunteering for the Cathedral and his local parish, and golfing with his son and nephews. His greatest joy in life was his five grandchildren, who loved "Grandad" dearly, and the family that he guided by example with quiet dignity and strength. He is survived by his wife Elsie, his children Mary Kane Christian (John Christian) and Mark Kane (Luda Kane), grandchildren James, Elizabeth, Matthew, Catherine, and Mark Hayden, sisters Nancy Kane, Barbara Javelera, and Mary Kane, and a large and loving extended family. Services will be held at Our Mother of Good Counsel Church at 2026 N. Vermont Ave. in Los Feliz. Rosary on Sunday, November 27, at 5 PM; Funeral Mass on Monday, November 28, at 10 AM.
