Mark Silverman Obituary

September 1950 - August 2025 Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Mark earned BSBA and JD degrees from Georgetown University. He began his professional career at the Federal Trade Commission in Washington, D.C., before relocating to California to join his family's manufacturing business. While trained as a lawyer, Mark's career reflected his entrepreneurial spirit and wide-ranging business interests.

In the 1990s, he became COO of Digital Evolution and Executive VP of US Interactive, helping companies navigate the emerging digital era. Over the years, Mark held leadership positions in numerous companies, including as COO of ScrollMotion, where he oversaw the creation of innovative apps at the dawn of the iPad. He also served as a board member for Georgetown Translational Pharmaceuticals, Avenue Healthcare, and the California Board of Accountancy. Most recently, he enjoyed mentoring young entrepreneurs as an Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Georgetown's McDonough School of Business.

He and his wife Mia shared a love of travel and among their most cherished memories were time spent with family in the Hudson Valley, on the shores of Lake Como in Italy, and along the Bosphorus in Istanbul. An avid horse racing enthusiast, Mark co-owned Gilded Time, the horse that won the 1992 Breeders' Cup Juvenile. Mark also made time for community and education. He served on the Board of Trustees of the John Thomas Dye School in Los Angeles and on the board of the "I Have a Dream" Foundation, LA. which supports educational opportunities for underserved youth.

Mark is survived by his wife, Mia; his children, Arielle (Michael Freedman) and Alex (Ellie Levitt Silverman); his grandchildren, Zev, Estie, and a granddaughter soon to arrive; and his brother, Barry Wine. He will be remembered for his integrity, intellectual curiosity, and devotion to family and friends. Donations in his memory may be made to the Mark Silverman Fund at the "I Have a Dream" Foundation, Los Angeles.

Earlier today

Mark was always a wonderful person to see and talk with at our daughter's JTD events. He had a great sense of humor but also a serious side. So any conversation was likely to be substantive and informative. He will be missed by his family and by others (like me) who only saw him occasionally --but enjoyed every encounter.
