Mark Slater Obituary

May 3, 1950 - February 28, 2025 Mark Wayne Slater, born on May 3, 1950, in Los Angeles, California, passed away unexpectedly on February 28, 2025. He was the beloved son of Morris and Vivian Slater and the cherished brother of Deitra (Michael) Rosson. Mark leaves behind his devoted wife, Rhonda, with whom he shared nearly 50 wonderful years of marriage, as well as his three loving children, Breton, Jordan, and Hayden. He was also a proud grandfather to his five grandchildren: Vivienne, Annabelle, Max, Sasha, and Mia and loved spending time with his nieces and nephews. Mark always reminded us that family comes first, echoing the sentiment that "family, family, family" was the heart of his life.

Mark was born and raised in Los Angeles, where he spent his entire life. He was deeply rooted in a family legacy of craftsmanship; as the grandson of a mason and the son of a contractor, he became a builder and developer himself. Together with his son Jordan, he founded Slater Development, passing down his skills and passion for the trade to the next generation.

As a builder, he constructed buildings and homes, but as a family man, he built a life filled with love, resilience, and the strength of togetherness. He and Rhonda created a life that many could only dream of, filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable memories. Their partnership was a testament to enduring love and commitment.

Mark was the patriarch of his family, an immeasurable loss to all who knew him. He loved to travel and had recently shared his excitement about nearly completing his travel bucket list. He recently expressed that he was the happiest he had ever been, taking pride in the accomplishments of his family and the joy his grandchildren brought him.

Mark Slater's legacy will continue to live on through the lives he touched and the love he shared. Every project he undertook was a testament to his dedication to creating spaces where memories are made.

A memorial service will be held to honor Mark's life on Wednesday, March 5, at 1:00 PM at the Westside Wilshire Boulevard Resnick Temple, 11960 W Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90049.

Wish I could have been with you today. I was shocked and Saddened to find out that Mark has passed. I began thinking back to when we met, I think, when Breton was born. I painted a painting for his room and Mark had me come before Ronda came home with the baby, and paint custom treatments in the room. Later, when the big house was getting completed, I painted the room for Hayden and painted the firetruck bed. Later, I helped find the Encino house for them and sold it to the family. I got to know grandpa Morris, who was delightful and when He died, I was at his funeral. Eventually, I was grateful to help sell Encino house, with my husband Bill. From time to time I would call and check in. So Happy I was able to experience so many special times with the Slaters. Mark told me about how he was busy building the Pressed Juicery stores with Jordan, and I Love seeing the gatherings with the family on FB and Instagram. I am sure you are slowly coming to grips with this new reality. Feel free to contact me if you would like to share. Love you, Audie Joyce.

Though our family knew Mark for a short period of time, his kindness and compassion was immediately felt.
