Marlene Briski Obituary

July 9, 1957 - September 9, 2024 Marlene Briski, great friend, amazing daughter, sister and aunt, lover of cooking and enjoying good wine, adventurous traveler, and loyal employee, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2024. Marlene was the second of two children born to Joseph and Dorothy Briski, on July 9, 1957, in Detroit, Michigan.
Marlene graduated from the University of Michigan-Dearborn in 1979. Soon after, she accepted a job working for Korn Ferry in Houston, Texas. A few years later, an opportunity came to work for the Los Angeles office, where Marlene remained for 44 years, rising to Vice President of Information Services. Her job took her all over the world, but fortunately, Marlene always loved to travel and see new places. She made the most of her travels by exploring the local culture, visiting museums, and enjoying a show whenever possible. Marlene loved her job and was very dedicated to her company until she was unable to work any longer at the end of July 2024. She was a caring leader, a mentor, and a friend to countless colleagues who respected and loved her. Her integrity, loyalty, and unparalleled work earned her the deepest admiration and trust of her coworkers. She was awarded the first Korn Ferry Founder's Award in recognition of her role as a founding member of the global consulting firm.
Marlene loved adventure and was always up for trying something new. She enjoyed life to the fullest and was the first up to dance, never afraid to sing or put herself out there in so many situations. She was kind, thoughtful, and extremely loyal, to everyone lucky enough to have known her. She cared deeply for all her friends and family and truly delighted in their accomplishments or special events. She never forgot your birthday or any other important milestone in your life and she might send a text but that was almost always preceded by an actual card arriving in the mail. Her sense of humor and slightly mischievous fun, coupled with cleverness and creativity, made for many memorable occasions for her friends and family. Marlene was one of the most well-informed people from current events to up-to-the-minute reporting from People Magazine. You could count on her to relay the latest word on everything from Beirut to Brad Pitt – and then some.
Marlene was so proud of her niece Alex and nephew Ian and loved to be involved in their lives as much as possible. Her biological family may not have been very large but she had many lifelong friends who she considered to be part of her family. Marlene was well loved and will be dearly missed by her brother Joseph Briski, sister-in-law Carolyn Briski, niece Alex Briski and nephew Ian Briski, nephew Elvis, her five godchildren: Monica Walker, Stephanie Walker, Katie Walker, Christopher Walker, Caylee Carmody, and countless friends.
There will be a mass in Marlene's honor at St. Brigid Catholic Parish in Pacific Beach, CA on Friday, November 22, at 11 AM. There will be a celebration of Marlene's life on Saturday, November 23, from 3:00-6:00 PM, at Marlene's home in Pacific Palisades. Stories about Marlene are welcome.

I was a colleague of Marlene´s at Korn Ferry and we remained friends after I left. She was indeed one of a kind: generous, kind, a concerned listener and a loyal friend. Her passing leaves a hole in my heart. My favorite memory is when I broke my hip and was homebound. Friends were dropping off healthy things such as prune juice, cream of wheat and bananas. Marlene made my day when she showed up with Häagen-Dazs ice cream! I admired Marlene`s curiosity in her willingness to take on projects that may have been outside her comfort zone. She loved her work and seemed grounded, even in the most professional and personally challenging times. I miss you dearly.

Joe, I'm so very sorry to hear of your loss of your sister Marlene. She was a good friend to my sister, Mary Pat, from early St. Sabina years to lab partners at Riverside. Peace, loving memories and deepest condolences to you and your family.

Although Marlene and I lived on different coasts, we shared a friendship and love of Pilates. She was truly a wonderful person in every way and aspect of her life. She will be missed, and I was blessed to know her.

Joe and family, my heart goes out for your loss. Marlene loved you all so much and it was nice to hear about your family antics throughout the years.

Growing up with Marlene as my "other big sister" was truly a gift. We played together ALL the time, and that closeness continued throughout our lives. I always knew I could count on Marlene, and I am so grateful that we had each others' families for anything we needed, and to share all of our experiences. From (literally) mud pies, to cutting each other's hair, climbing fences, MEGs book of GEMs, attending concerts, airport and lengthy customs visits, travels together (the road to Hana during a drought). Celebrating our birthdays and holidays - our lives - together was a blessing.
