Martin Doyne Obituary

Doyne, Dr. Martin March 1929 - January 18, 2012 Martin Doyne, 82, known on the East Coast as "Buddy" and the West Coast as "Marty," was born in Bayonne, NJ. Dr. Doyne founded the Doyne Medical Clinic and focused on the treatment of the working class. He moved his practice to Avalon Blvd. in South Central LA in the early 60's, where he built a large and loyal following of patients, treating generations within the same families. During the Watts riots of 1964, his clinic was the only building on the block untouched by fires and looting. His patients stood outside to protect the clinic all night long. Longtime employee Birdie Jean Mims recalls "Every Christmas for 30 years he gave presents to all children in the neighborhood, he took care of everybody." In 1992 he and late wife Joan relocated to Las Vegas and carried on his tradition of treating the black community. Dr. Doyne was known among friends and family members as a raconteur and joke teller. He was at once down to earth and larger than life - he will be dearly missed. He is survived by sister Lynne Bloch, children David, Daniel, Beth, stepdaughter Alisa, niece Emily Schweber, nephew Rob Schweber, beloved companion Roslynn, and many family members. Donations can be made to Boys and Girls Club of America. Condolence cards may go to Doyne Medical Clinic, 1706 W Bonanza Rd., Las Vegas, NV 89106.

What a thrill when I saw Dr. Doyne's name in my computer this morning. I may be one of his oldest patients. He assisted on my first hernia operation in Hawthorne, California. My wife Hilda, may she rest in peace and my daughter Tina and I followed him when he moved to his Avalon office in Ca. We lost contact when we moved to Las Vegas, NV, but not for long. One day while driving on the freeway my wife saw his name on a sign and immediately started talking about it, could that be him, his son? We didn't waste any time in getting off the freeway and visiting his office, oh what a joy when we saw him again. He was happy to see us and immediately he gave Tina a Lolli Pop. I always remember his loud voice, (ENFERMERA). Tina and I attended his funeral and there were a lot of tears around.
Dr. Mario and the rest of the crew are doing a great tremendous job in the clinic and I want to thank all of them for all they've done for me and for keeping the great pride left by Dr. Doyne.
I haven't seen the great Honcho of the clinic, but I believe he may be the one that performed my surgery.

Dr. Doyne my mother and my doctor in Los Angeles , On Avalon and my favorite doctor and delivered my son. My condolences to the family.

My mother and her 10 children were patients of Dr. Doyne's in the 60's and 70's at the Los Angeles location. I have fond memories of Dr. Doyne's office on Avalon. In 2011, my mother said she wondered what happened to Dr. Doyne. I looked him up on the internet and drove my 80 year old mother from Los Angeles to Las Vegas. He remembered her and we just laughed and took pictures. I'm so glad I followed my instincts and made a memorable road trip for my mother to see her Doctor, her friend.

I will always remember Dr. Doyne with great affection. My 1st meeting with him was when my sister told me he was a good Doc with reasonable rates. I went to see him because i found out I was diabetic. He served me for free because I found out later he thought I had no money because i had just started a new job. he just said, " you can get it next time " That was it for me to realize he would be my Doc. I later asked him why he didn't charge me, cuz i had money. He said with a smile, then pay your bill. Always funny and gruff at times. But in a good natured kind of way. I still miss him. An d will always thik of him as my favorite Doctor.

My name is Marsha Dennis, Dr. Doyne was our family doctor. He treated everyone in our family from my Grandmother to my Mother, Aunt, my five brothers and I and mym Aunt's 6 children. My heart is actually breaking right now. He was the Doctor we trusted with all of our health concerns, if he said it, it was true. He always had suckers in his pocket, and he knew grape was my favorite. I remember going to see him as an adult, and yes he gave me a grape sucker, I never eat a grape sucker without thinking of him!.......You are truly missed!!!

Dear members of Dr. Doyne's family, friends, patients and all members of his office staff, my heart aches for each one of you and I pray that God comforts each and every one of you with His everlasting love and mercy.

My family and I had the honor and privilege of meeting Dr. Doyne in Hawthorne, CA when he first started his practice in 1959, I might be one of his oldest patients time wise. He assisted in my first hernia operation in those early years. All these years he has been family to us, not just a doctor.

He set the standard in medicine for professionalism, caring ways and giving all he had for his patients, they were number one in his book. My family and I didn't care how bad we were feeling, when we left his office we always felt better. He didn't spend one or two minutes with us when we saw him, he would say "the heck with HMO's and other insurances, my patients' well being come first!" He should definitely be the paradigm for the entire medical profession.

In the last few times that we saw him he had several medical students under his tutoring and from the advice that he gave them, (if they heed it) I feel that they will contribute tremendously to a new generation of caring and giving individuals that are dedicated to the great cause of helping those in need.

My heart is still aching from his loss and it will take a long time to heal, but I'm comforted knowing that he is no longer in pain and God will take good care of him. May God's blessings be with all of you.

January 24, 2012

Good bye Buddy. With your passing and that of Eleanor Goldman, the first cousins are down to 1 Doyne, 1 Rubin, 1 Gladstein, 1 Eden and 2 Kleinbergs.
I regret that we didn't have more contact is the last few years and I'm sad that we lost touch when you moved to Las Vegas. We did have some good times - when I visited you at Hobart and in Kansas City and when we worked the swing shift at Douglas Aircraft in Santa Monica. I will miss you.
Your cousin.

To the Family:

In this difficult time in your lives, may you find comfort in God's word, the Bible. James 4:8 encourages; "Draw close to God, and he will draw close to you."

My condolences,
SJB.

Dr Doyne: The most generous doctor I've ever met. Saw patients who couldn't afford to pay. Always honest. Never gave patients the run around. If he didn't know it, he'd send patients to someone who did. He was straightforward and had an incredible sense of humor. He took his job seriously and loved his patients. He was such a caring and genuine person. I was blessed to meet such a caring doctor who practiced with his heart and not his wallet. RIP. We miss you, but we're glad that you are no longer in pain. You will always be remembered.

I was devastated when I got the call, last night, informing me that Dr. Doyne had passed! What a service he provided for our community - late hours on Monday & Thursday evenings and open on Saturday, not to mention being conveniently located, affordable and great staff! I pray that his clinic continues to provide the quality of care he established. He was a compassionate doctor. I can't imagine how much he'll be missed. I pray he knew how much he was appreciated and loved. Take your rest. Thanking for caring for and taking good care of us!

He was a jewel. I had the pleasure of taking my kids in a couple times for sports physicals. He treated us like we were life long and regular patients. Based on those few experiences, for 15 years I get a smile on my face every time I drove down bonanza just thinking about what a character and great guy he was. His family and all of us were lucky to have him.

Dr. Doyne was a phenomenal physician... I was a patient of his since 2000... He help and healed alot of medical issues that I had... He always made me laugh and his smile will forever be indebted in my heart... My last couple of visits to his office he was not there and I questioned his absence because I could feel that something wasn't right... So, with that being said I just want to send my prayers and condolences to the family... He may be gone, but he will NEVER be forgotten!
