Michael Hodgson Obituary
Born in England, Michael graduated from Brighton Collage of Art in 1974. He then enjoyed a lustrous career as a Graphic Designer, beginning in London as Art Director of Harpers and Queen magazine. In 1979, he then moved to Los Angeles where he founded Ph.D, A Design Office with Clive Piercy.
Michael served as president of the Los Angeles Chapter of The American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) from 2004-2006, and served on the national advisory board of the AIGA Center for Sustainable Design. In 2007 he was named an AIGA Fellow, the highest honor awarded by the institute.
A lover of world music, Michael had a radio show called "Stepping out" in the late 80's and early 90's on the famed Santa Monica based radio station KCRW.
Michael was also a keen cyclist and was deeply embedded in the cycling community, especially the charity cycling group "The Fireflies", who named him "Il Capitano."
Michael will be remembered for his exquisite work in the design field including album covers, books, logos and environmental signage. Michael's ability to connect with people, his charming, witty personality and snappy, colorful style will be remembered always.
A memorial for Michael will be held at Otis College of Art and Design on July 9th at 12:30pm.
