I had the pleasure of hiring Mike to teach Anthropology at College of the Canyons. During the interview Mike mentioned that he had a cousin living in Taft, Ca by the name of Neil McCabe. What a surprise as Neil lived a block from my childhood home and we were close friends from lst grade all the way through high school graduation, and we still keep in touch up to the present time. Over the years that Mike taught at COC he kept me up on his contacts with Neil, and after I retired Mike very faithfully kept in touch. I am very sorry to hear that he has passed as he was a great faculty member, especially talented in teaching the California Indians class, and I am sure that he made a lasting impression on many COC students. I will miss his e-mail messages and the attached Anthropology articles he always enclosed. Mike was one of the "good guys" and I will sincerely miss him.
