Just learned of Michael's passing. Selling us art was just the beginning. He encouraged me as an artist and worked tirelessly to find ways to sell my work in his gallery. He even framed our son's painting and displayed it in the gallery. He was just a generous guy. Will miss him.

Mr. Schwartz was the best man I have ever encountered. I've only met him just last year but I was drawn to his kindness and smile. He always encouraged me when I told him I was going to back to school to become a nurse practitioner. He said I could do it and that the time will go by anyways. He believed in me, even though he only knew me for a short period of time, that's a true testament to his character and believing in people.
I saw him not too long ago and he was telling me how excited he was to be going to Alaska to fish with family. I know he had a good time. He also taught me how to make a good steak. I will use the recipe he gave me as well as the grill he bought me to make a steak in his memory.
Mr. Schwartz, your memory will live on through me. You weren't just my patient, but also like a father figure, and I am truly blessed to have gotten a chance to met and know you. I'll forever talk about you and your kindness. Thank you for simply being you!
Love,

So sorry to learn of Michael's passing. I attended many events at his gallery and, to say the least, was far from an important customer. Yet we always had a good conversation and I always felt welcome. A fine man. I envied him the artists he knew. He will be missed.

This one hurts. I met Michael in 1989 when he was having one of his wonderful warehouse sales in the annex. I ended up buying Signac, Morisot, Pissarro and Bonnard. I worked just down the street so I was always popping in to say hello and view the beautiful art.
Michael was a joy to be with. Kind and always informative. I will miss him greatly and whenever I view my Gallerie Michael art I will think of him.

Michael made art come alive through his profound way of describing each piece with such passion and knowledge. More importantly he put relationships as a priority, always greeting me with a kiss on each cheek and a lunch reservation when I came through LA. He valued his friendships from Barrington and adored my sister Barbara in a fun way! They always had a good laugh. I will miss his warm heart, our talks and especially not seeing him at the Galerie. He was a wonderful man and heaven has a new angel . RIP Michael. I extend my sincere condolences to all the Schwartz family, he has left a beautiful legacy. May God comfort you all in loving memories. ❤ The photo was taken Sept.6, 2019- the last time at the Galerie.

We met Michael many years ago when he was still living in Chicago and working with the Merrill Chase Art Gallery. After he moved to California and established his Gallery on Rodeo Drive, we had many occasions to visit him and work with him on several projects involving his love of the French Barbizon School, he would invite me and my wife Yvonne to attend the exhibitions he organized that included so many wonderful Barbizon works. He also asked me to contribute to the catalogues he published. These were wonderful events as Michael's company was always inspiring and so much fun because Michael was a true comic. He could have done stand up comedy with the best. He was knowledgeable in his field, could always find excellent works to sell, and he knew how to get his clients excited about what he had found. Last, but not least, Michael was amazingly generous. Not just to me and my wife Yvonne, but in supporting 19th Century Art WorldWide, an on-line magazine that a group of 19th century Art Historians started more than 20 years ago, which probably would not have survived without the his generous financial help and that of a few others. We will miss his humor, and his kindness. We send our love to Janet who was so much part of the life of Gallery.
