Michele Margaret Nies

Michele Margaret Nies (née Newman), 85, of Manhattan Beach, CA, passed away peacefully at home on April 27, 2025.
Born in Los Angeles, Michele lived a full life, rooted in gratitude. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend - known for being wholly herself: kind, open, stylish, and just a little bit irreverent.
Michele began her career as an elementary school teacher and later owned a travel agency, a fitting place for someone who believed deeply in the power of travel to open hearts and minds. She enjoyed many adventures, both near and far, and especially loved her regular visits to Catalina Island. When she passed, she still had trips on the calendar and things to look forward to.
A lover of trees, nature, and walks, Michele found beauty everywhere. She spent many Mondays strolling through the South Coast Botanic Garden with her crew, a place that brought her peace and joy. She practiced yoga and meditation, played Rummikub with friends and family, and rarely said no to something new. Michele knew how to live a full and satisfying life. She was grateful for what she had and was present to the people and world around her. Michele is survived by her daughters, Kim and Melinda; Melinda's partner, Charles Arthur; and four grandchildren - Lila, Michael, Charlie, and Will - along with other family members and many close friends whose lives were touched by her warmth and acceptance.
