Dorothy Moldovan Obituary

Dorothy Ann Moldovan
Dorothy Ann Moldovan passed away on the evening of July 3, 2014, in the presence of her family after an extended illness. It was the day that Dorothy and her husband Joseph marked as their 60th wedding anniversary.
The former Dorothy Ann Doraski was born on June 18, 1932 in Mt. Carmel, PA. After moving to Lorain, Ohio, she met and fell in love with Joseph ("Joe") A. Moldovan. The two were married on July 3, 1954 at Our Mother of Consolation Catholic Church in Mt. Carmel, PA. Initially, Dorothy stayed at home and raised her three children through their formative years. The family moved in the late 1960s to Holiday Lakes, a community outside of Willard, Ohio. In the late 1970's Dorothy and family relocated back to Lorain, Ohio. Dorothy went to work and later retired as an Executive Secretary in the Marketing and Sales Department at TRW, the Nelson Stud Welding Division. She was a member and past president of the local chapter of Professional Secretaries International. Over a span of about the next twenty years Dorothy and Joe resided in Ft. Meyers, FL and Waxhaw, NC. Recently the couple moved to Center Ridge- ALF in North Ridgeville, Ohio until her passing.
Dorothy was a loving wife and a devoted mother of three children, five grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. She always loved little children and thoroughly enjoyed hearing about the events that were happening in their young lives, especially the funny things that little ones say and do.
Dorothy was very bright, talented, and articulate. She could be feisty, but was usually warm and kind often adding to any conversation with her witty one-liners. She was an accomplished seamstress and loved to knit, often making Easter garments for herself and her children. She was an excellent cook and in her earlier years enjoyed entertaining guests. Dorothy and Joe were excellent ballroom dancers and thoroughly enjoyed dinner and dancing dates throughout their lives. She was an avid supporter of The Ohio State University and Cleveland professional sports teams, especially football and baseball. In her later years Dorothy stayed active and enjoyed learning new things. She took up golf, often beating her husband Joe. She joined ladies book and cooking clubs. Throughout her life she loved to shop – especially for clothing and household furnishings.
Dorothy is survived by her husband of sixty years, Joe and their three children: Joseph George (Ohio), John Randal (Sherry May Carpenter) of Colorado and Melanie Marie (Ohio); grandchildren: Victoria ("Tori", Ohio) and Joseph ("Joey", Florida), Michael, Jessica (Luke) Smith, and Joshua all of Colorado; great grandchildren: Jackson (Ohio), Isabelle and Makayla Smith (Colorado), her three sisters, Marie (John) Casper (California), Joan Teli (North Carolina). and Peggy (Ron) Zehel (California); and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews who were all very dear to her.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Helen Doraski, and her brother Kenneth Doraski.
Please pray for the family as Dorothy's wit and wisdom will be greatly missed.
The family would like to thank the staff at Center Ridge ALF, Crossroads Hospice (Valley View) and Home Instead Senior Care (North Ridgeville) for the care and kindness showed to Dorothy and her family. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in Dorothy's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Dorothy will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain, Ohio. A brief service is planned for the family. Later this summer, a funeral Mass and celebration of life are being planned for her family and friends.

So very sorry to hear of Dorothy's passing. I will always remember spending time with her and listening to the stories she would often tell. She loved it when David and I would stop by on Halloween to show them what we dressed up as.

Miss seeing them drive around the neighborhood to see what was happening from time to time. I also miss going with her to the Matthews Woman's Club Victorian Christmas Tea. We made that an annual event until she got ill. Sorry we didn't get the chance for her to teach me how to knit.

I will miss you, Dorothy.

Some of my favorite memories were shared with Dorothy and her family. She was a kind and thoughtful person who was a lot of fun to be around. She was truly one of a kind and she will surely be missed. I pray that her family and friends find comfort in remembering the many happy times they shared with her and in knowing that someday they will see her smiling face again when she is there to welcome them home.
