Morris Hazan Obituary

Hazan, Morris A. (Morrie)(86)
Died peacefully at home May 15, 2004, from complications associated with Alzheimer's Disease. Morrie was born in Los Angeles on February 13, 1918, to Sephardic immigrant parents from the Isle of Rhodes. He began his working life by helping his peddler father sell flowers in the streets of Los Angeles, and through hard work and drive he became a highly respected, innovative entrepreneur in the grocery and liquor, linen supply, and real estate businesses. He also created The Original Cookie Company, with stores in malls across the nation. These successes enabled him to live the great American dream and to pursue many philanthropic interests. The two causes dearest to him were the City of Hope and Israel Children's Centers. Morrie will be missed so very much by his beloved and devoted wife, Shila; by his loving children, Lovee (Bob) Arum, Judy Carmel, Bucky Hazan; stepchildren, Caryn Krasne and David Krasne. His grandchildren, Dena duBoef, Todd (Heather) duBoef, Candy (Michael) Barasch, Bradley Carmel and David Hazan, will forever have joyous memories of their "Poppy." He is also survived by great grandchildren, Robert, Julia, and Mason, and many loving nephews, nieces and friends. Morrie was predeceased by his sisters Raina, Tillie and Rita. The family's utmost gratitude goes to "Morrie's Angels," who lovingly cared for him and who helped him maintain his humor and dignity during his illness. He will always be remembered for his love of life and his desire to help those less fortunate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Morrie's memory be made to OPICA, 11759 Missouri Avenue, Los Angeles, California 90025 or to any charity of your choice. Services will be held at Hillside Memorial Park on Monday, May 17, 2004, at 2 PM. Hillside Mortuary, (800) 576-1994

Susie and I were saddened to learn today of Morrie's passing. On the few occasions that we were fortunate enought to spend with Morrie, he was the classic charming old world gentleman.
