Noel Brown Jr.

Noel Brown Jr. was born to Jewel Clary & Noel A. Brown Sr. in Texas 95 years ago. As a boy he dreamed of playing tennis with great players. Noel taught himself by playing against the wall of the local schoolhouse where his mother was a teacher. The family moved to San Diego where he attended Pt. Loma High School and became #1 tennis player in So. Cal. graduating with academic honors.He attended San Diego State, then graduated from UCLA after completing ROTC training, and was commissioned as a lieutenant in the Navy serving on the USS BOXER.Military service was followed by a pro tennis teaching career in Los Angeles. In the 50's he won major tournaments in the US as an amateur, ranked #8 in the nation in singles, #2 in doubles and co-coached the US Davis Cup team.As founder/owner of E.B. Industries, he copyrighted Oceanways & Seadive, then developed the "Rayblocker", an antifog, sun-blocking scuba mask lens that was a major breakthrough in the industry. During his 50+ year membership in the Santa Monica Beach Club, he participated in marathons, played social tennis at Riviera Tennis Club and enjoyed an active retirement until health declined.He considered 6/3/95 the most important day of his life. It was the date of his marriage to Leila Bishop Brown, the most loving, caring person in the world. This union combined her wonderful daughter, Deanne Hutchison (Kip), granddaughter Bella, her son, Howard Bishop and Noel's daughter, Lucinda into one family.Noel was the epidemy of a self-made man. We are forever grateful for the exceptional example of hard work, self-discipline, integrity, strength, tenacity and selfless generosity. Thank you, Noel for a multitude of great times, support, travel adventures and memories. You will live eternally in our hearts. A private memorial service will be held at sea.
