I've only now learned of Pat's death, five years later. As a priest and social psychology teacher at San Luis Rey Academy in Oceanside, CA in the early 1970's, Pat was a guiding light and a cheerleader for me during my very troubled adolescence. When he moved to the L.A. area, we corresponded for a short while. He continued to offer me heartfelt encouragement and sincere kindness, which I have never forgotten. It was, in part, as a result of his inspiration and example that I later became a social worker and then a psychotherapist. Today I came across a letter from him that I have kept for the past 47 years, which prompted the internet search and discovery of his passing. I am deeply grateful to him for his dedication to mental health treatment and for the brief-- but indelible--- role he played in my life.

Fr. Pat was newly ordained when he came to SEH as a teacher and as moderator of my freshman class ('60). We all loved him. He was caring and helpful, and also so much fun. I am incredibly saddened by his death. In my heart he is still young. RIP dear Pat.

Father Pat was one of the good guys. Many great memories of my freshman yeat @ St. Liz because of him. He also coached freshman basketball and he needed a lot patience. "God speed to home father Pat"

His pipe was like a magic wand, kind of hypnotic as well as the smell of the pipe tobacco! A wonderful teacher, approachable, kind, and humorous. Took his task of teaching us chemistry and biochemistry very seriously. Serendipitously, I ran into him in later years, when he was providing drug counseling for youths for whom I was providing residential treatment. I have had no contact with Pat for many years, but he is someone who stands tall in my memory of important people in my life. THANK YOU, PAT.
