Franklin Strier Obituary

Franklin (Frank) Delano Strier passed away peacefully on September 5, 2025. Frank lived a remarkable life that spanned 81 years, during which he touched the hearts of many with his incredible wisdom, humor, and unwavering love for his family.
Frank's professional journey was marked by his passion for education and law. For the majority of his career he served as a dedicated professor at California State University Dominguez Hills where he was awarded both the Presidential Outstanding Professor and Hyundai Business Professor of the Year. He also became lead editor for the Journal of Business and Management. Prior to his celebrated teaching career, Frank was a practicing attorney, a Certified Public Accountant, and a senior policy analyst with the U.S. Department of Commerce. His extensive body of work includes four published books and numerous articles in law reviews and esteemed publications such as the L.A. Times, ABA Journal, Judicature, the American Journal of Forensic Psychiatry, and The Humanist.
Frank was an engaging man of many interests. While always passionate about teaching and writing, his true joy came from spending time with family, caring for animals, and avidly watching NBA games, particularly relishing the exciting era of the 1980s "Showtime" Lakers. His insatiable curiosity drove him to research various subjects - resulting in on-air media appearances discussing jury reform, and more recently, exploring the dangers of childhood gun violence. One of his favorite accomplishments was writing and publishing a 700-page novel that humorously portrayed the life of a college professor, showcasing his ability to find real joy and comedy in everyday life.
From his early beginnings in Brooklyn, NY to pivotal times in Washington D.C., Frank felt truly "home" in Palos Verdes, CA. Known for his quick wit and an impressive vocabulary that rivaled the best thesaurus, Frank had a unique ability to connect with others. He earned the affectionate title of "animal whisperer," sharing his home with many rescue dogs and becoming an amusing character on the local dog path.
Above all, Frank cherished his family. He is survived by his loving wife Patricia (Pat) Strier, with whom he shared 50 beautiful years of life, 44 of those as a married couple. They built a life filled with continual love, laughter, and support. He is also survived by his two children, Zachary Strier and his wife Kristy, Casey Sherman and her husband Jason, and his two adored grandchildren, August Sherman and the newest addition to the Strier family, due February 2026, who is sure to carry on all the best attributes of the Strier name.
In honor of Frank's wishes, only a private remembrance was held. The family invites those who wish to commemorate his legacy to consider donating to Wags & Walks animal shelter (wagsandwalks.org/memorials) or Habitat for Humanity (habitatla.org/donations). Contact [email protected]
Frank Strier leaves behind a legacy of kindness, intelligence, and laughter. His memory will forever be cherished by those who knew him, and his impact on the lives of loved ones will resonate for years to come. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

Frank was a presence. His intelligence came with an unwavering wit. He was curious, supportive, and honest. My favorite kind of person.

I´ll never forget the time he and Pat came to one of my first shows in Los Angeles. I was blown away that they wanted to be there, and sincerely touched when Frank called Zack the next day to ask if he could chat with me. It wasn´t an empty congratulation. It was a call to encourage me, to challenge me to keep going. At the time, it was exactly what I needed: someone with experience who felt like a kindred spirit, reminding me I was on the right path.

That is who Frank was. He understood how the smallest gestures, a thoughtful word, an honest nudge, a moment of support, could ripple outward. He lived that way every day, turning those ripples into wakes that carried people forward.

That kindness will never leave me. I see it in his son, Zack, in the loyalty, the honest nudges, the support he shows to his family and friends. I know Frank´s children will carry his legacy forward in the way they treat others because they already are. The best of Frank lives on in them, and that may be the greatest legacy of all.

Frank showed us what really matters: showing up, being kind, and leaving people better than you found them. I can only hope to do the same. Because that is a life well lived.

I cheated and read your book before we met. In my defense, you sounded pretty intimidating as a future father-in-law-a law professor who had written multiple books and debated complex topics on air. I thought reading your work might give me an edge.

Luckily, the moment we met, you welcomed me with warmth and kindness. From the start, I felt at home in your family, and I will be forever grateful to be part of it.

There was a kind of kinship in our shared New York past-something that made the California sun feel even brighter.

Your grandson has been asking a lot about heaven lately. We really wish you were here to help answer his questions. It´s not exactly something they covered in Hebrew school, and I don´t always know what to say. But I find comfort seeing you live on, in his wit, in my wife´s thoughtful mind, in your son´s strength, and in Pat´s love. And maybe even in your dog Oliver, sometimes.

Thank you for your intelligence, your kindness, and most of all, for welcoming me into your family.

Frank was a wonderful colleague. We worked together at California State University-Dominguez Hills. He was kind, witty, brilliant and always thoughtful. We launched the Journal of Business and Management and worked well together for over 11 years. I will miss him very much.

I feel so lucky to have known Frank. He led such a multifaceted life. He was intelligent, funny, progressive and generous. Any time I had the privilege of talking with him I left feeling inspired. I remember a conversation in which he talked to me about writing and encouraged me to write about some of my experiences. This conversation always sticks with me and continues to uplift me. Thinking of and sending love to the beautiful Strier family.

Frank was one of my best friends for over 59 years. We started in law school together and kept in touch over the many many years we used to get together regularly for dinner for a number of years and I always relished those opportunities to hear his great wit. I will miss him greatly.
