Paul Yates Obituary

August 22, 1951 - June 22, 2018 Dr. Paul Richard Yates, beloved husband of Jacqueline and father of Alexandra, died peacefully after a short battle with cancer on June 22, 2018. Paul was born in Los Angeles in 1951 to Morton and Rose (Kaplan) Yates and was predeceased by his mother, and sister Laura. He grew up in Hollywood, exploring the hills behind his house and racing down the steep streets by Nichols Canyon on his skateboard. Recently he tried to instill a love of skateboarding in his border collie, Cleo, but she has yet to reveal any hidden proficiency for the activity. Paul received his Doctorate in Psychology from USC where he also met his wife Jackie. As an adult, Paul was a dedicated psychologist, avid guitar and tennis player, a skilled cook, and a pretty fantastic t-ball coach. His family and friends will miss his keen sense of humor, ability to guess the end of every movie, and above all, his kindness.

I am so very sad to just find out that Paul passed. He was a professor of mine at Antioch University back some 35 years ago. And in later years we practiced in the same building on Riverside. I am very sorry for your loss .

I know I am late to the table on this, but I started seeing Dr. Yates professionally when my dad passed away 12 years ago. Then, four years later, when my husband suddenly passed away, he saw me through that as well. I see that his day of passing was June 22--the same as my husband's--and my heart breaks afresh. He was a wonderful human being and I am forever saddened by this loss. Much love to Jackie and Alex about whom he always spoke with a full heart.

Paul was a national treasure. He was my therapist for 18 years, even though I'm sure I spent much of that time driving him crazy. He was patient and considerate and funny, and he brought immeasurable value to the lives of anyone lucky enough to know him. His death is truly such an immense loss. I will miss him always.
