Peggy Kaus Obituary

Kaus, Peggy A.
February 8, 1923 - July 5, 2011
Peggy Kaus, beloved mother of Stephen and Mickey, widow of Otto, grandmother of Jason and David and sister of Robert Huttenback, passed away from cancer at 88. Born in Germany, fled the Nazis to England with her family, then built a home in Los Angeles. Met her husband, Otto, outside Kerckhoff Hall at UCLA. Urged him strongly to attend law school when he returned from WWII and subsequently backstopped his successful career as an attorney and judge while refusing to become a spousal appendage. Proudly maintained an English garden even when the fashionable landscaping was rocks, concrete and succulents. A devoted and determined parent, an outspoken civic activist who won the respect and affection of friend and foe. She was funny! She would still rather be in London. Memorial scheduled for Sunday, July 31st at 3 PM in the Muncipal Gallery, 2d floor of Beverly Hills City Hall, 455 Rexford Dr. BH 90210. But check www.peggykaus.com for updates. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a contribution to The Honorable Otto Kaus and Peggy Kaus Endowed Scholarship at Loyola School of Law, 919 Albany Street, Los Angeles, California 90015-1211.

Hard to believe that nine years have passed. I still think about her walks and attention to her surroundings.

I was so sorry to learn about Peggy's death. I will miss seeing her walk around the neighborhood, admiring the flowers and meditating about how things were and how they could be. All the best.
