Peter Joseph Vogelsang M.D.

1936 - 2022

April 12, 1936 - May 14, 2022 Peter Joseph Vogelsang, MD went to the Lord on May 14, 2022, and is now peacefully reunited with the love of his life, Diane.
Peter was born the third son to Josephine and Frank Vogelsang on April 12, 1936, in Los Angeles. He attended Notre Dame High School where he first met his sweetheart Diane at a school dance. His talents as wide receiver on the football team led to two full scholarship offers. He declined these offers and chose to attend Loyola University in Los Angeles in order to focus solely on his studies needed to enter medical school.
After just three years at Loyola, he then entered medical school at St. Louis University. He married his princess Diane in 1959 when they began their journey of 54 years of marriage. The newlyweds then returned to Los Angeles where Peter completed his residency at LAC/USC and where he also was a clinical professor for internal medicine until 1987. He took pride in guiding his students to think critically and creatively.
After Peter was drafted into the army in 1967, the family moved to Fort Ord for 3 years and then returned to their permanent home in the San Fernando Valley.
Peter served each patient with commitment and compassion. He was board certified in Internal Medicine and served on the Board of Directors of Catholic Charities and St. John of God Care Center for over 20 years. He was also a proud Knight of Malta.
Peter and Diane's passion for traveling often included the entire family. Many happy memories were formed in their trips to Paris, Jumby Bay, Hawaii, Little Dix, Ixtapa, Alaska, Tahiti, and their favorite, the Mauna Kea. The laughter they shared on those trips continues to warm the hearts of all.
Peter is survived by his four children, Lori (John), Lisa (Michael), John (Lisa), Krissy (John); 9 grandchildren, and is preceded in death by wife Diane and son Richard.
Services will be held on Saturday, June 4 at St. Francis de Sales Church, 13360 Valleyheart Dr, Sherman Oaks, CA 91423 with the Rosary at 11:00am and the Funeral Mass at 11:30am.
