Phyllis DeCinces Obituary

DeCinces, Phyllis Vernon
June 5th, 1924 - May 17th, 2011
Phyllis Vernon DeCinces passed away with dignity on May 17th, 2011, surrounded by the love of her family and friends. Born on June 5th, 1924 in Cleveland, Ohio to Katharine Ross Little and Vinton B. Vernon; the family, along with her brother Dean, moved to Los Angeles in the late twenties. She met the love of her life, Camillus Theodore DeCinces, while attending North Hollywood High School. They married on September 17th, 1946 in Reno, Nevada, settling in the house they built in Northridge. With her loving support, 'Ted' built a construction business that would grow into a multi-state construction corporation. Along with her children Cheryl and Douglas, she was a source of love and support for a very large family and circle of friends. A strong woman with a huge heart, Phyllis dedicated her life to helping those less fortunate. She served on the board of the Hilltoppers Auxiliary Assistance League of Southern California, the March of Dimes, and The Childrens Spastic League. Her charity work garnered many acknowledgements including The Presidents Call to Service Award in 2007 bestowed to her by George W. Bush.

Phyllis also enjoyed being a Girl Scout leader, PTA President and the best baseball fan a son could wish for. While her life was lived to the fullest, her top priority was always family. She is survived by her son Douglas and daughter Cheryl; her four grandchildren Justin Yungfleisch, Tim DeCinces, Amy (TJ) DeCinces Williams and Katharine Carter; and her 5 great grandchildren who'll always remember her huge smile, warm embrace and wise words. She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years and grandson Chad DeCinces.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in her honor to Hilltoppers Auxiliary Assistance League, 1370 North St, Andrews Place, Los Angeles, CA, 90028, or in honor of Phyllis' great grandson Beckett Williams, please send to The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Southern California Chapter, 2150 Towne Center Place, Ste 120, Anaheim, CA, 92806.

Cheryl and Doug,
So sorry to hear of you loss again. My dad passed May 22, 2010 at 93 and mom is 94 in frail condition. Remembering our parents when we were all in high school together at Monroe..soooo strong. They even love me regardless of the crap I gave them. I guess it is a fact that we all get called home! But..that does not make it any easier. Memories! Memories! They are precious! Love d+++
