I met Renee at the Pasadena City College flea market in maybe the late 1980s or early 1990s. I found her to be fun, quirky, and beautiful. Wish we had kept in better touch over the years. I was saddened to hear of her death.

Renee's friendship over the decades will always be one of my greatest life-treasures. We became fast friends back in the West Side Tavern/Rebecca's days in Venice Beachdancing and laughing and delighting in the easy sisterhood she so graciously offered me. When I was a journalist in Santa Monica, Renee was my date to the fireman's ball where we scooped up an elderly ballroom dancer who taught us well (if sternly) for years afterward. She inspired me in so many ways: with her love of family, beauty, food and wine, with her dreams of dresses (several of which I still have!) and her fine entrepreneurial spirit. I don't think I could have started my business without her mentorship and encouragement (she made my first prototypes with typical grace and care, even as she was running her big-time pj biz). We tripped the light fantastic so many times together, from LA to NYC to Santa Fe... Losing her on this plane was so unexpected and heart-breaking (I thought we had many more years, oh god I will miss her). Her sparkling laughter and consistent kindness continue to enrich my soul... And so I dedicate myself to more bravely being a bon vivant in her honor and to valuing friendship like the precious treasure she showed me it could be.

Whenever I think of Renee, I picture her wearing faux fur shorts in 1975.

The absolute most caring and coolest Auntie anyone could have ever asked for. Always so stylish and full of life. We will forever miss your dark hair, bright red lipstick, and that contagious laugh of yours. You meant so much to so many and you will forever by in our hearts. We love you! Please give Aunt Michelle and big kiss and hug for us as well.

Renee was a beautiful and inspiring friend. I met her in her flamenco dancing stage, relished her tales has her entrepreneurial spirit sewed messages in the pockets of her budding pajama business (to Oprah, no less), and enjoyed her whimsy and laughter as we dined and dished for decades. She lived her life bravely and to the fullest. She will be sorely missed.
