Richard Pearlman Obituary

Pearlman, Richard L
October 15, 1927 - August 4, 2012
Retired LAUSD educator, beloved husband, father and grandfather, Richard L Pearlman died in Northridge, CA, at the age of 84. Born in Fort Worth, Texas, he graduated from Plainview High School in Plainview, TX in 1945. After serving two years in the US Navy, he enrolled in Chaffey College in Upland, CA, where he met his bride-to-be, Susan. Pearlman earned two bachelor's degrees from USC (Music and Psychology), and an MA in Counseling and Administration from San Fernando Valley State College (now CSUN). He applied these degrees to a long career as an educator, counselor and administrator. Pearlman taught junior high school math and music, especially enjoying his stint as leader of the band and orchestra at several schools. He retired as Head Counselor/Assistant Principal at Walter Reed Junior High in North Hollywood in 1988. Throughout his dedicated career, he touched and influenced many lives and, for years, former students and fellow teachers kept in touch with the old master, who was known for his jovial personality and love of bad puns. After his retirement, he donated his time in the office of Burbank Temple Emanu El and in the library of the newly opened Skirball Center. Pearlman is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Susan, beloved sons Steven (Charlene), David (Lynn) and Bob (Tina), three grand-daughters Sarah, Alexandra and Samantha, and his cats, Cassis and Elan. Remembrances in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association.
