Richard Roat Obituary

July 3, 1933 - August 5, 2022 On Friday, August 5, the Lakers and Angels lost their biggest fan.

Richard Roat, the most supportive friend a person in the entertainment industry could ever have, passed away suddenly.

Richard had amassed over 135 acting roles on television, film, and on Broadway. He guest starred on "The Golden Girls" twice, the first as a Murder Mystery Host and later playing Betty White's boyfriend, only to be found dead in her bed the next morning. He appeared in "Friends," "Seinfeld," "Hill Street Blues," and just about every TV show going back to "Car 54 Where Are You
"

Richard performed on Broadway, at The Public Theatre in Central Park, The Huntington Hartford Theatre in Los Angeles, and the Pasadena Playhouse.

In addition to his distinguished career as an actor, Richard had a successful practice as an entertainment tax preparer for over 50 years.

As an individual, Richard was a true Renaissance Man. He loved music, playing the violin, the theatre, movies, literature, provocative conversation, and a good whiskey. Richard loved sports and would have been ecstatic that the Angels won on the Friday night he passed. He had a gorgeous smile, a naughty twinkle in his eyes, and loved to badinage with everyone.

His greatest love was his family, with whom he shared his incredible sense of humor, intelligence, and unmatched zest for life.

Richard was fortunate to marry the love of his life, his true soulmate, Kathy. They had recently celebrated their fortieth wedding anniversary. Their life together was a magical journey of travel, fun, laughter, and love. It was truly "An Affair to Remember."

Richard will be missed by family, friends, colleagues, and clients. He will be thought of often, with warm memories and a quiet chuckle for all the good times he brought to our lives.

We had no idea that Richard had passed away until August 31st when a tiny segment was on the Channel 7 News (?!). We were deeply saddened by this news. My husband's childhood friend David is brother to Kathy Roat, Richard's wife of 40 years. Times together for the past 37 years have been full of love and laughter. He will be sorely missed.

In the early `80s, my mother enjoyed working for Richard, and my then-fiancé and I, both of us actors, were delighted to be his clients. My deep sympathy goes out to his family and friends.

Dear Kathy. Please accept our condolences on behalf of our beloved cousin Don. I just turned 65 and he was always larger than life to me.

I will remember kindness that he always extended his first cousin, my mother Peggy, and my dad.
We are sure that we will see him again so let's live life to the fullest so that we can compare notes with him after .

Dear Roat Family,
Richard was a friend and classmate of my husband's at Hall High School in West Hartford, CT. We double dated at my senior reception and I had the pleasure of performing with him at our Annual Gaiety talent show. May he rest in peace.
Sincerely,
Shirley Kosiorek Rossano

Richard will always be my "Special Friend" - a private joke we shared for many years. His smile, warmth, laughter and love will be missed.
Gary and I only wished we had been able to spend more time with him and Kathy, but are comforted in the fact we were able to share quality time with him shortly before his passing,
Dearest Kathy, please know we´re here for you.
All our love,
Patti & Gary
