Richard Shaw Obituary

April 5, 1944 - April 29, 2022 Richard N. Shaw, MD recently passed away at home. He was 78 years old. He is remembered and loved by his wife Hope, son Brian, daughter Megan, sister Sharon, his grandchildren Henry, Quin and Cyprienne, his stepdaughter Lara and his step granddaughters Lily and Ella. Dr. Shaw was truly an American success story. He overcame a tremendously challenging upbringing to become a renowned and well-respected rheumatologist, practicing primarily in the west San Fernando Valley. He helped save countless lives throughout his esteemed medical career. He put himself through college earning his bachelor's degree at UCLA before moving to St. Louis to attend medical school at St. Louis University, where he met his first wife Karen L. Rocchio, mother of his two children. He was an Air Force Veteran serving as a Major at Vandenberg AFB. During his medical career, his efforts on behalf of Lupus patients earned him recognition from California Governor Pete Wilson and the The Lupus Foundation of America lifetime achievement award. Dr. Shaw also served as a Clinical Professor at UCLA throughout his career. Dr. Shaw loved cars, particularly his 911 SC Porsche and trained to race cars in the 80s. Services for Dr. Shaw will be on Tuesday, May 2nd, 2022, 2 pm at the Hillside Memorial Park, 6001 W. Centinela Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90045

To his wife Hope and family my sincere condolences. I just heard of this terrible news. I have known Dr Shaw since the late 70´s and have always known him as a dedicated, and kind man. He loved what he did and was a true professional. I am very saddened by his death. May God rest his soul.

We write this with great sadness and much love. Words are inadequate to express the sadness we feel at the loss of Rick, and we want to express our sincerest condolences to you and his loved ones. You were such a charming couple. We always enjoyed being in your company. Rick was special person, intelligent, warm and caring, a real mensch. On Sunday I attended the 60th high school reunion of the Hamilton High School class of Winter, 1962. I knew Richard, Ricky then Rick to me, since third grade at Overland Avenue Elementary School. I was shocked to learn at the reunion that he had passed away just two days before. Although we drifted apart we were friends throughout school and met again at the 50th reunion. My sympathies to you and your family.
