Richard Wiseley Obituary

October 20, 1945 - August 30, 2017 Richard's big heart has affected many lives in his 71, almost 72 years. He was a brave and generous man who delighted in spending time with his family. He was quick to offer any help he could to those who reached out. He was a true philanthropist and a beautiful person. Richard married his college sweetheart, March McCoy on May 29, 1965. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and uncle. He is survived by his wife March, their four children: Jessica, Libby, Katie, and Mac. He loved being an Opa to his three grandchildren: Leo, Eleanor, and Lana, an uncle to Kristen and Stephanie, and a father-in-law to Dylan, Tom, and Kenneth. He loved his two brothers, Charles and Jerry. Richard was an esteemed business leader. He began his career in the financial services in 1970. His hard work and larger than life personality allowed him to quickly move up the ranks. He managed offices for Bache & Co. and Oppenheimer in Texas, Maryland, D.C., Virginia, North and South Carolina, Mississippi, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, New York, California, Arizona, and Washington State. Richard was very active in his love of the outdoors, conservation, and fund-raising for those causes. He served as a past president of the Carolinas chapter of the Safari Club International. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, founder and member of the California Sheep Hunter Federation. He served on the boards of the Starlight Foundation, Wheels for Humanity, A Place Called Home, and the Western Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He was named Humanitarian of the Year for greater Los Angeles by the Anti-Defamation League in 2005. As a young man he was an accomplished amateur boxer with numerous Golden Gloves titles. He took up golf in his 60s and loved playing with March on their home course, Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma where he visited with childhood friends, family, and served on the Board of Trustees for the University of Tulsa, his alma mater. He was an avid supporter of Sooner football and attended as many games as he could. Richard and March have traveled the world on their own and with their family and friends. Richard was an adventurer. He loved to be surrounded by nature. Some of his favorite stomping grounds were Alaska, British Columbia, the Yukon, and up near the Arctic Circle. These were places he returned to again and again over the past 30 years. He found great solace and recharged when he was in the great outdoors. He was an outstanding individual and the community has lost a fearless man with a boisterous laugh and a tender heart.

I am so grateful that you were my dad. I loved spending time with you, talking, listening to your wisdom, laughter and life´s stories. You made such a positive impact on so many people- you were and are an inspiration to such a wide circle of people that knew you over the course of your lifetime. I wish you were still here. When I experience moments of profound natural beauty I know you are near. Your laughter is what I miss the most, I wish I had that recorded somewhere as a pick me up. Rest in Peace Dad.

Even now, stronger now. His legacy lives in the way I connect with people through him, in story, in loss, in laughter, in the way he boomed and spoke in baritone song. His presence is still strong and his memory is warm. Miss you Dad

Rick gave me my first opportunity when he hired me one week before I graduated from Texas Wesleyan College in Fort Worth TX. I was 21 and he hired me as a broker at Bache. He said kid I am going to give you a shot but at your first year after training in NYC I want you to be number one in production in your training class. He was the kind of man that inspired me to go for it. I learned so much from that first job at that young of an age. Thanks for the opportunity Rick and it paid off. I think of him often.

Hands down the best manager I´ve had the pleasure of working with throughout my entire career. He made work exciting, backed me (and others) and my ideas, supported us through thick and thin, gave us a swift kick in the rear when necessary and ONLY when necessary, he had a talent unlike others. He was both an interesting and hilarious storyteller and interested in others - genuinely interested. He received me like family at the office and did the same with my children when they would visit. Always generous with compliments and enjoyment of life! You are constantly in my thoughts Rick and I will always cherish the times spent chatting in your office, at events and watching you seamlessly allowing those that lead to lead, those that preferred to follow to do so and knowing how to encourage them all the same. Thanks for your caring support.

I miss my dad. He was a wonderful light on This planet and I feel listless without him here. He was a beautiful and effervescent spirit. I hear him still in my thoughts, everyday. If there is some divine order, I hope he knows my love for him is infinite and I hope that he is in peace.

I just recently heard the sad news of Richard's passing. I cut his hair, so I didnt know him well. But I knew him well enough to know he was a great, kind man, with a big heart. I truly enjoyed the short amount of time I got to know him at Fekkai. From our conversations about the Oklahoma Sooners to his advice on life. My heart goes out to his lovely wife March and their kids.

Rick was a great guy and a very honest and hard working man. I joined Opco at about the same time he did. I remember the Texas accent in NY. I left in the 1980s but kept in touch with Rick on and off over the years. Sorry to hear of his passing. Dave

I just learned the very sad news of Rick's passing. For 8 years I enjoyed working for Rick at Opco. He was truly the most compassionate, insightful and generous manager I've ever worked with. His larger than life presence in the office and at after work gatherings was something special. My condolences to the Wiseley family and Rick's many friends on the passing of an extraordinary man. Rest in peace, Rick. Go rest high on that mountain.

Just learned of this sad news I was Rick's secretary in his first managerial position at Bache & Co., Fort Worth Texas, 1975. He took a chance on a 22 year old kid, and even though he wasn't much older, I learned a great deal from him and continued to work for him when he was promoted to his first regional director position in Charlotte, NC. Those were the days of his maroon Porsche, long days of recruiting and inspiring the troops ... always with that cigar. I remember Rick as a kind man who loved his family, and cared about the people around him. We lost touch long, long ago, but those days working for him in the brokerage business have never been forgotten. My condolences to the entire Wiseley family.

What a privilege to have had the opportunity to call Rick "friend".
We cannot imagine a world without Rick's laughter or his stories.
Dinners, trips, whatever the occasion, were always more fun when Rick was present. His love for March and his family was foremost in his conversations and his future plans.
Rick was a success in business but he never let that part of his life overshadow his relationships with anyone. His passing leaves a large "hole" for his friends, his family and all those who knew him.
Love to March and family.

Rick Wiseley was my hero. He was superman. I have never met a man with his class, heart and kindness before.

I was loss in my thirties and Rick tried to help me with a job, friendship, confidence.

His accomplishments, his modesty, the way he led by example, I am shocked that he is gone.

He is the TRUE definition of a 'mensch', a GREAT father, husband, friend, mentor and I will miss him forever but NEVER forget him.

I wish I can be the man Rick Wiseley was.

I am so sorry he is gone but I do KNOW he touched my life through his goodness that I am a better for it and will continue to be.

There REALLY is no one else like him. He was perfect to me.

Rick is the best Manager I've had in my 20+ years in this business. He was a great story teller and his memory for small details of every employee is remarkable. I think he knew my husband's name before I did! Halloween at OPCO was something we all looked forward to. He would always wear the best costume! He was generous with his time, money and compassion to all. He was a gentleman. He would carry my boxes up the stairs for me while I was pregnant and working. He made you feel like you were special and part of a loving family. Coming to work with him at the helm was a joy! His name will always bring a smile to my face. Rest in peace Rick. You will always live in our hearts.
My deepest condolences to your family; work and home.

My Uncle Rick was truly one of a kind, and words can't express the sadness of losing him. Despite being one of the busiest people I've ever known, he always made time for his family and friends, he was generous and kind to everyone, and his sense of humor could lighten up even the darkest days. He was an adventurer, a family man, a leader, and a philanthropist. He truly lived.

It has taken 4 days of tears to finally be able to say what a great friend and manager Rick was for over 25 years. I represented Oppenheimer in Alaska thanks to Rick. The 25 years of adventure is largely because of his sponsorship and encouragement.. He was a first class man in every way. I will always have a place in my heart for Rick. There is so much more to say abou a life well lived. That was Rick. You

I knew Rick for 30 years. He was a larger than life character, a man's man, funny, elegant, a great friend, and in command of any room he walked into. My most indelible memory of him was about ten years ago when I visited him in his Oppenheimer office. "How would you like to meet my whole office," he said. Whereupon he walked me around the whole floor and introduced me by name to everyone, from the mailroom person, sales assistants, clerks, to the top producers. He knew them all, knew their stories, and they all loved him. I'll never forget that.
