Robert Edward Kelly

1934 - 2021

October 20, 1934 - July 11, 2021 Beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away from his long battle with cancer. Robert was born in Harrisburg, PA to Bernard and Rose Kelly. He grew up in Pennington, New Jersey. His education included several degrees, B.A., B.Sc. Aero Engr. Sc. D culminating with a Ph.D. from MIT. Upon completion of his Ph.D., Robert married his wife of 57 years, Karin Elizabeth Kelly. They settled together in Los Angeles, CA where in 1967 Robert began his lifelong career at UCLA as professor of aerospace engineering, fluid mechanics. Robert received many recognitions for his lifelong service and contributions to his field. He was a beloved mentor and colleague. Robert enjoyed the outdoors, nature, fishing, camping, hiking, the ocean, and working in his garden. He loved to travel, read books, listen to music, and watch sports. He was an avid Bruins and Dodgers fan.Robert is survived by his wife Karin, son Nicholas, daughter Jennifer, granddaughters Ashley, Danielle and Madison and his grandson Tanner.
