Robert Lass Obituary

July 6, 1931 - March 31, 2023 Robert Francis Lass, lovingly known as, "Big Bob", died peacefully on March 31, 2023 from natural causes, surrounded by his family and caregiver Ian. Big Bob was a seventh generation Californian who graduated from Loyola High School (1949) and attended Loyola University. After serving his country in the Korean War, Big Bob returned to Los Angeles and started a long career in the film industry as a negative editor. Bob was a generous parishioner of St. Brendan's. He received a Papal Honor in 2016. For years, Bob volunteered with Meals on Wheels. As a result of all his volunteer efforts in the Los Angeles community, he accepted an invitation to join the Knights of Malta. He truly was a man who lived for others all his life. He married his beloved Teddy in 1953, and they were together for 69 years. They raised 7 children, grandparents to 14 and 5 great-grandchildren. A lifelong sports fan devoted to his Lakers, Dodgers and Trojans, we will always remember him wearing his team jackets and shirts with Teddy by his side. His memory will remind us to get out on the dance floor, ride a perfect wave and linger at a beautiful sunset. Bob's infectious laughter, the twinkle in his eyes and his bear hugs will be missed and forever cherished. A memorial mass will take place on Saturday, May 20, 2:00 P.M. at St. Brendan's Church. Please wear your favorite Hawaiian shirt at Big Bob's request. Reception to follow at Wilshire Country Club. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Homeboy Industries.

Bob was such a wonderful man. He and Teddy were first cousin staples in my life growing up. It has been a true joy to be around him, his home, his family. His memory is indeed s blessing.
