Ruth Sharrigan Obituary

September 10, 1917 - March 19, 2016 Ruthie passed on surrounded by her loving and adoring family. She lived a long and full life. She was smart, funny, caring, and fiercely devoted to her family and many friends. Ruthie was born in Sharon, MA to Alec and Minnie Wittenberg. The family moved to Jamaica, Long Island when she was eight. She loved New York and all it offered. During WWII she worked at the Red Cross where she met her future husband, Gerrick Sharrigan. They wed in 1946 and traveled to California, settling in Van Nuys, where they raised their two children, Laurie and Paul. In 1957, Ruthie got her real estate license and ultimately became a broker. Her acumen, trustworthiness, and kind personality contributed to her successful and rewarding 35 year career. Ruth and Gerry had a deep love for travel and were blessed to travel with their children and many friends. Ruthie and Gerry were able to travel to Europe three times before Gerry's passing in 1974. Ruthie continued with her travels with friends. She went to China, Israel, Egypt, Africa (safari), and Costa Rica to name a few. From the time she was young she loved to bike ride and continued to bike weekly with girlfriends at the beach well into her late eighties. She enjoyed swimming, aqua aerobics, playing bridge, her book group, music, and the theater. She was fond of the arts and always eager to take her grandchildren to any cultural event. Ruthie will be incredibly missed. For those fortunate to have known her she will always be remembered for her loyalty, style, strong will, and the love she gave to everyone around her. She leaves her dear children, Laurie, Paul (Patricia), her grandchildren, Marisa (Josh), Alex (Shelby), and Mia, along with her many nephews, nieces, and cousins.
