Sabra McCay Clark

CLARK, Sabra McCay Died peacefully in her Pasadena home on the morning of Jan. 23rd with her family at her side. The daughter of Katharine Tilt McCay and William Sutherland McCay, Sabra was raised in Pasadena where she attended both Pasadena Polytechnic and Westridge Schools. After studying at Bennett Junior College then the University of Arizona, she moved to San Francisco and met Robert Carl Clark. They married and settled in Pasadena where they raised five children. Sabra was an active member of the Pasadena community. She was a lifelong member of the Pasadena Art Alliance and a founding member of the Pasadena Art Museum (now the Norton Simon Museum.) She was a strong advocate for education and progressive thinking, sitting on the boards of both Westridge School, and Pasadena Planned Parenthood, as well as being an active alumnus for Polytechnic School and a supporter of the Pasadena AIDS Service Center. When her children were grown, Sabra turned her energies to the business world by taking on the challenges of being a small business owner. She ran Art Leaders, a fine art poster publishing and distribution company for ten years, where she loved mentoring her youthful employees. During this time she also served as an art consultant for the Huntington Hospital. Sabra had an eye for all things beautiful which she expressed through her love of the arts and her beautiful home. As a founding supporter of the "Arlington Garden in Pasadena" she enjoyed watching it become a loved center of her neighborhood. Sabra is survived by her five children: Katie Clark; Bill Clark and wife, Julie; Sabra White and husband, Doug; Lydia Seely and husband, Jim; and Sam Clark. Sabra is also survived by seven grandchildren: Michael, Suzie, and Nathan Clark; Mollie and Ned White; and Hannah and Emmett Seely. Sabra is also survived by her three sisters and sister-in-law: Katharine Nevins Schwarzenbach, Louisa Nevins Miller, Dorothy McCay Scully and Mary Lois Nevins; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Friday, February 1, 2008 at the All Saints Episcopal Church, 132 N. Euclid Ave., Pasadena, CA 91101.
