Sadie Herndon Vannier

September 19, 1928 - August 8, 2024 With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Sadie Herndon Vannier of Sierra Madre, California. Sadie was born in Morrisville, North Carolina on September 19, 1928, and passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on August 8, 2024. Sadie had accomplished careers as a chemist and tax preparer. She held a bachelor's degree in chemistry from the Woman's College of University of North Carolina, Greensboro. In 1953, she married Wilton Vannier (d. 2007); they raised their sons in Maryland.
Sadie led an active life well into her 90s. She was an avid golfer, radio-controlled model airplane enthusiast, and orchid grower. She had a passion for animals and enjoyed spending time with her dogs. She will be remembered for her boundless energy, curiosity, love of gadgets, and dedication to life-long learning.
She is survived by her sister Margaret, sons David (Anna) and Robert (Linda); and her grandchildren, Rowan, Christopher, Matthew, Emmett and Eva. A memorial service will be held at the Sierra Madre United Methodist Church on September 13th at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to the ASPCA.
