Seethalakshmi Narasimhan Obituary
June 8, 1944 - February 28, 2024 Dr. Seethalakshmi Narasimhan, wife of the late Dr. Krishna Narasimhan passed away on February 28, 2024, at the age of 79.
Seethalakshmi was born on June 8, 1944, in Thiruvanthapuram, Kerala to parents Viramoni and Shenbagam. Seethalakshmi was raised in Thiruvanthapuram along with her eight siblings. Seethalakshmi received a BS in Chemistry from H.H. The Maharaja's College for Women and obtained her medical degree as a gold medalist from Trivandrum Medical College. After medical college, Dr. Seethalakshmi ran a medical practice from her family home and then secured a prestigious hospital tutor position. She married Dr. Krishna Narasimhan in 1970 and they settled in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
While in Chennai, Dr. Seethalakshmi finished her specialty training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Madras Medical College and served as head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Stedford Hospital. Later she lived with her late husband in Zurich, Switzerland, where she made contributions to immunology research. During their time in Zurich, they travelled all over Europe and learned to ski, creating memories that they would recall fondly for many years.
After returning to Chennai, Seethalakshmi had a son and daughter, and went on to complete a one-year fellowship in Glasgow, Scotland. Eventually, the Narasimhan family settled in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where Dr. Seethalakshmi practiced Family Medicine and Obstetrics and Gynecology, and she also made contributions in electron microscopy research. Seetha liked to spend her free time along with her late husband volunteering at the Sri Venkateswara Temple, serving roles as religious chair, executive committee president, treasurer, and in the board of directors and trustees.
Seetha was also an artist who also liked to draw, paint, and sing. She loved to travel and visit various parts of the world with her family and on her own. Seethalakshmi shared a special bond with her late son-in-law, David Benjamin Kantor, and they supported each other through different challenges and celebrations.
Dr. Seethalakshmi was an intellectual professional, fiercely independent, hardworking, and a very generous woman who will be missed by so many. Her work ethic, achievements, and selfless service will continue to inspire her legacy. Seetha frequently donated to Meals on Wheels as she understood the unmet needs of so many who live without needed assistance, especially after spending years often making house calls to visit her patients. Dr. Seethalakshmi is survived by her daughter Anandhi Narasimhan, her son, Krishnan Narasimhan, husband of Nisha Vyas, and her grandchildren, Shashi Simha Kantor, Reya Krishnan, Devan Krishnan, and Kailas Krishnan.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Seethalakshmi's honor to Meals on Wheels.
